"✏️ Vesuvius is an active volcano, being considered one of the most dangerous as it is very close to populated areas, having 3 million people living in proximity. The last eruption of the volcano was in 1944 and the most catastrophic eruption was the one in 79 AD when the cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae, and several other settlements were destroyed.
Walking through the park gives spectacular views of the Bay of Naples and this path leads to the crater, the Gran Cono, and goes around it. The trail up and back is around 4 kilometers.
🕘 Opening hours of the Mount Vesuvius National Park:
January, February, November, December - daily from 9am to 3pm
March and October - daily from 9am to 4pm
April, May, June, September - daily from 9am to 5pm
July and August - daily from 9am to 6pm"

"Mount Vesuvius, the volcano responsible for the city’s destruction. If time permits, you can hike up to the crater, where you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of the Bay of Naples and the surrounding countryside. The hike takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace, and offers a chance to peer into the still-active volcano. Along the trail, you’ll see unique volcanic rock formations and, if the weather is clear, you can spot Naples, the islands of Capri and Ischia, and even the Sorrento Peninsula. The sight of Vesuvius looming over Pompeii is a humbling reminder of nature's power."

"The "sleeping giant", Mount Vesuvius is still the only active volcano all of Europe [on the continent, not islands]. It's famous for destroying the ancient Roman city of Pompeii but its history is dating back thousands of years before humans ever encountered it, maybe it's around 300,000 - 400,000 years old.
Since 1995, Vesuvius became a national park and today you can walk up to its summit. The best route is of the Gran Cono that brings you through a steep path to the center of the crater and opens you the best panorama."
