"The Marian avocation of this church, as well as its curious scallop-shaped design, indicate that it is a temple dedicated to pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago.
It is located next to the Gothic church of the former convent of San Francisco, next to the Portuguese Camino de Santiago. Built between 1778 and 1832 according to plans by Antonio de Souto and Bernardo José de Mier — typical of the late Baroque with neoclassical elements, its greatest originality lies in its plan in the shape of a scallop shell and its convex facade, flanked by two towers. The nave itself, finished off by the sacristy, is shaped like a cross.
It is preceded by an atrium with a staircase and balustrade with spiers, and presided over by an image (19th century) of the Virgin of the Pilgrim, patron saint of the city and province of Pontevedra. The largest, neoclassical altarpiece was created in 1789 by Melchor de Prado."
