"Located in the city of A Coruña itself, on its seafront promenade. Since its construction by the Romans, the lighthouse, now known as the Tower of Hercules, has been a monument worthy of mention. It is referred to as such in Roman chronicles and later sources up to the present day. Its uniqueness has led to the Tower becoming the symbol of the city of A Coruña, and it has been adopted by all the neighbours and institutions.
Now, the oldest lighthouse in the world still in operation, which has illuminated thousands of people with its presence and light during its existence, is a World Heritage Site.
A lighthouse from the Roman era (2nd century AD), although there may have been a Phoenician building earlier. It was extensively restored and refurbished in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The exterior has a square layout and windows. The interior can be accessed through the excavations carried out around the lighthouse and the upper part by a staircase that becomes a spiral staircase in the last section. It is open to visitors and has a museum inside."

"I think that this is the best spot of A Coruña. If you search for the city on Google, Torre de Hercules will be the first picture you will see. It is located in the north behind the centre and surrounded by the ocean with waves crashing against the rocks.
There are more places worth a visit nearby like Rosa dos Ventos, Playa das Lapas, Playa de San Amaro or Petroglifos de Punta Herminia.
The tower is built in Romanian style with 234 stairs to reach the top. It is considered to be the oldest functioning lighthouse. People from A Coruña are really proud of it and maybe that´s why they decided to put it on their coat of arms.
The ticket to enter the tower costs 3,50€ for adults. There is a discount for students, children and seniors. "
