"St Andrews is a small coastal town famous for it's prestigious university. Even if you're not interested in academia it's still a lovely little town to spend an afternoon in.
To get there you can take bus X59 from Stagecoach. It departs from Edinburgh every hour and costs 19£ return. Alternatively you can take the train which costs 26£ for return ticket .

"St. Andrews is known for housing the university where Prince William and Princess Kate attended school.
Saint Andrew is also the Patron Saint of Scotland - so the town has a lot of historical significance to the country and its history. Every year they celebrate St. Andrew's Day on November 30th. "
