Wat Huay Pla Kang: Goddess of Mercy Chiang Rai

"Wat Huai Pla Kang, located in the Rim Kok subdistrict of Chiang Rai, is a relatively recent temple that has become an important religious and cultural landmark. Established in 2001 by the temple's devotees, it officially received its name from the National Office of Buddhism on July 24, 2009. The first abbot of the temple was Phra Achan Phopchok Tissawaso. One of the temple's standout features is the Phop Chok Dhamma Chedi, a striking nine-storey structure that blends various architectural styles. The exterior is built in layers, with each floor covered by Chinese-style roofs adorned with dragons. At the top, the chedi transitions into an inverted bell shape in a traditional Thai style, and the uppermost tier is decorated with Burmese influences. The interior of the chedi contrasts with its outer layers, featuring European-style decorations. Inside, visitors can find a replica of Guan Im Bodhisattva carved from fragrant wood, while each floor houses a standing Buddha image. Another impressive feature is the white Wihan, accessible by a staircase decorated with stucco Naga (serpent) patterns. Inside the Wihan is the principal Buddha image, which is a white statue of Guan Im Bodhisattva, standing at 79 meters tall, making it the largest of its kind in Thailand. The statue is positioned on a hill, offering a majestic presence. Visitors can also ascend within the statue to enjoy a panoramic view of Wat Huai Pla Kang and the surrounding area. This temple has become a popular site for both worship and tourism, combining architectural beauty with spiritual significance."
