What people say

"Located in the Gion district, the shrine is a very popular destination for visitors looking to immerse themselves in the history and culture of Kyoto. Dating back over 1000 years, Yasaka Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto goddess Konohanasakuya, who represents cherry blossoms. The shrine is a place of prayer and offerings, where visitors can buy good luck amulets and write their wishes on wooden tablets called ema. 👣 How to get there: reachable on foot from Kiyomizu-dera (1,3km, 20min). Metro stop: Higashiyama, Tozai line. 🎟️Ticket cost: free entry."
"The shrine is perhaps best known for July's Gion Matsuri , one of Japan's most famous festivals, when Kyoto becomes a city focused on celebration for most of the month."
"One of my favourite shrines to visit. Free of charge, beautiful nooks and crannies to explore and appreciate, and not always super busy. "
