"Lagoa das Furnas is a serene and picturesque lake nestled in the Furnas valley, surrounded by lush greenery and dramatic volcanic landscapes.
This crater lake is known for its vibrant, emerald-green waters and the geothermal activity that characterizes the region, with hot springs, fumaroles, and mud pools scattered around the area.
Near the lake, you'll find the charming Capela de Nossa Senhora das Vitórias, a small chapel built in the 19th century, offering a peaceful and historical spot to reflect while admiring the surrounding scenery.
The area is also famous for the traditional Cozido das Furnas, a dish slow-cooked underground using the natural heat from the earth.
Visitors can take leisurely walks around the lake, explore the thermal baths, and visit the nearby gardens, making Lagoa das Furnas a perfect blend of natural beauty, volcanic intrigue, and cultural heritage."

"The western of Furnas' two volcanic calderas is partially filled with a crater lake. Lagoa das Furnas (Furnas Lake) has calm, bright green water and is surrounded by an equally green forest. The Furnas Lagoon Trail is an easy, flat, four-mile loop that rings the lake. It passes a chapel, gardens, a monitoring-and-research center, sculptures, a bamboo grove, fumaroles, and mud pools along the way.
Parking: If you're entering Furnas from the south, there's a large parking lot across the street from the southeast corner of the lake."
