Sao Miguel is the largest and most populated of the nine islands that make up the Azores archipelago, located in the North Atlantic Ocean.
It's been inhabited since 1427 when the first Portuguese explorers landed on the island.Ā
The first time I visited Sao Miguel in 2019, I fell in love. I'm not a hiker, but the breathtaking beauty of the nature and the kindness of the people I met blew me away.
I felt completely at home at a place very foreign to me, and I would love for others to experience this as well.Ā
May to September are generally the best times to visit because the hydrangeas are in full bloom and there is a higher chance of sunny weather. BUT plan in advance as the island has limited amount of hotel rooms, rental cars and guides.Ā
