"Scribner’s Catskill Lodge is striking. The all-black, modern exterior stands in stark contrast to the green or white (depending on the season) slopes that loom in the background. It's a year-round basecamp for all of your Hunter Mountain activities. A hotel first opened here in the 1880s. Yes, the 19th century. An artist renovated it in the 1960s. Then, in 2016, it started transforming into the bespoke mountain lodge that it is today. The lodge now has 38 cozy rooms with whitewashed walls and dark-maple floors. Some have balconies, fireplaces, lofts, and uninterrupted mountain views. While the new Rounds, located just down the road, have extra privacy and outdoor soaking tubs. The rooms aren't the only draws to the lodge, though. Its library has a circular fireplace, lots of seating nooks, and a pool table. It leads to the West Deck, which has Adirondack chairs, picnic tables, and a fire pit. Also outside, you'll find a barrel sauna, the summer pool, the winter skating rink, and the garden that grows veggies for Prospect, the on-site restaurant. The lawn is littered with fire pits and games. Bonus points for the station to refill water bottles. Note: The lodge has ADA compliant rooms. It also welcomes dogs and kids. Location: 3 hours from NYC Style: motor lodge turned mountain retreat Vibe: mountain basecamp"
