Atelier-Museum Júlio Pomar

"With a collection of several hundred works – painting, sculpture, drawing, engraving, ceramics, collages, assemblage – donated by the artist to the Júlio Pomar Foundation, and deposited by it in the Atelier-Museu, it shows the journey of an artist who experienced different eras , periods and political contexts, absorbing plastic influences and, simultaneously, moving away from them. In addition to works of art, the heritage deposited by the Júlio Pomar Foundation covers an important documentary and bibliographical set, made up of images, books and catalogues, newspaper articles and other historical records. Privileging the collection, but using other works, donated, acquired or loaned, the Atelier-Museu's exhibition program certifies the plural dimension of Pomar's work. Operating in the field of contemporary art and seeking to encompass the plurality of its current expressions, the Atelier-Museu is the stage for events and various exhibitions by other artists, from various generations, national and international, emerging and established, proposing a dialogue with space and with the work of Pomar. The architectural project of the Atelier-Museu Júlio Pomar, with an austere outline and clean lines and discreetly integrated into the neighborhood's architectural fabric, was designed by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira."
