It is a small village that seems to have been the inspiration for the kingdom of Arendelle in the Disney film Frozen. The village is also known for its 7,000-year- old salt mine, which is the oldest in the world, and thanks to which Hallstatt was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

📍Distance: 395km

👣How to get there: it is possible to arrive both by bus, train and car, but the most convenient and cheapest way to get to Hallstatt is the train, which takes about 4 hours and requires a change at Attnang-Puchheim.

🎟️Ticket cost: starting from 50€

If you want to see the Austrian Alps, then this is the day trip location for you! Due to its distance from Vienna, it is recommended you book a guided tour with transportation to visit Hallstatt.

This fairytale town is a very touristy place overlooking the Hallstätter See and can be overcrowded during the high season. I recommend visiting it in any case because it is one of the prettiest places I have ever seen in every season of the year.
