What people say

"Sakarun is a wild beach with amazing coloured waters, shallow and gentle. Left side of the beach is with smaller pebbles and no natural shade, while right side of the beach has natural shade under pine trees, but also with bigger pebbles/rocks. It would be a good idea to bring sea shoes if you're not used to walk on rocks/pebbles and to avoid touching algae which can be found on the sea shore. Bring umbrella with yourself to protect yourself from strong sunny hours, as well as some food and drinks as the beach bars are quite expensive and non - quality. This is a wild beach, which means no organised restaurants, hotels facilities, no toilets except Toitoi, which could be unhygienic experience. The beach at the moment has some problems with pollution from human influence (garbage left after tourists), which is a pity as it is very different and pretty in comparison to other beaches. There are parking lots which are not free. Beach is also reachable by tourist train, it goes every half and hours or so and one way ticket costs around 3 eur (cash only). Beach Veli Rat is rocky/pebble beach which overlooks at the open sea and highest lighthouse on the island. It is 25 min walk distance from the lighthouse. Color of the sea is mesmerising, but as for Sakarun, bring some sea shoes with yourself for swimming and also good sneakers for walking to the beach. This beach has its natural shade and it has bigger waves as it looks upon the open sea (eastern side is said to be more calm). It is a wild beach so beware of animal life and be cautious where you step. This is amazing sunset spot. Veli Žal is also pebble/rocky beach with amazing clear waters on Dugi otok, reachable by car and with non - free parking lot. After parking lot there is 300 m path which leads to to the beach. There is a fast food at the beach but as for other two, it is recommendable to bring your own food and drinks, umbrellas and sea shoes. Please do not leave garbage on the beach. This beach is quite shallow but after it reaches the depth, also it has natural shade. "
"Beach Sakarun is one of the most celebrated and picturesque beaches on Dugi Otok, Croatia. Located on the island’s northern coast, this beach is renowned for its stunning natural beauty and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Sakarun Beach stretches over 800 meters and is known for its fine white sand and shallow waters, making it an ideal spot for swimming and relaxing. The beach is set within a large, sheltered bay, which is surrounded by a backdrop of lush pine trees and rocky hills. The shallow waters extend far from the shore, providing a calm and safe environment for families and beachgoers. The combination of the beach’s fine sand and the transparent, emerald-green sea creates a visually striking contrast that is both inviting and serene."
