"On your way from Bocas Town to Starfish Beach/Playa Boca del Drago, there's this super cool spot called La Gruta, bat caves. You can actually stroll right through them and listen and see the thousands of bats hanging and going crazy with their chirping. It's only a 10-minute walk to explore the caves.
Before you enter the caves, you'll spot this elderly lady chilling outside. She'll kindly ask for a small fee of $1 USD for you to venture inside. check out La Gruta on your way to Starfish Beach.
Getting there:
Hop on one of the colectivos heading to Boca del Drago in town. Once you're inside, make sure to let the driver or their assistant know that you want to make a stop at La Gruta. The first colectivo will drop you off right at the entrance of the bat caves, and will continue on. After you've explored the caves simply walk back out onto the road and flag down the next colectivo you see. All colectivos will be heading towards Boca del Drago on this road. You can also do it the other way around too! Just have a colectivo drop you off at the caves on your way back to town from the beach. Make sure you plan your time wisely and don't miss out on the last colectivo back. It leaves Boca del Drago at 6 PM.
Now, if you're feeling fancy and don't mind spending a little extra, you can always opt for a taxi to take you to the caves. It's a good idea to ask the driver to wait for you, 'cause taxis aren't exactly lining up on this road.
So, there you have it! Whether you choose the colectivo or the taxi route, just make sure you give yourself enough time to enjoy the caves and catch your ride back. Have a blast exploring La Gruta, my friend!"
