"The Capela de Nossa Senhora das Vitórias (Chapel of Our Lady of the Victories) is a small funerary chapel on the south shore of Lake Furnas. It was built, in the 1870s, to house the graves of José do Canto (you might have walked around his botanical garden in Ponta Delgada) and his wife. The Gothic chapel had beautiful stained-glass windows. Unfortunately, the red-brick chapel is closed the public. Locked green gates stand along the steps at the entrance. But the chapel still stands guard over the lake. Photographers love it here."
Jenn Geiger
"A small, dramatic chapel from the 1800s."
