"If you are looking for a peaceful, harmonious place hidden from the bustling life of Zagreb, the Strossmayer Promenade is the right place for you. Located along the remains of Zagreb's medieval fortifications it offers scenic lookouts over the Lower Town. The romantic Promenade is shaded by tall chestnut trees and it is the most atmospheric during summer festivals, when it's full of food stalls, artists and music. This is where people gather for sunsets during warm evenings and later on their continue the night in the Tkalča street. The Promenade is named after Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer, a leading social, cultural and political figure for the Croats in the 19th century.
In front of the main entrance to the Lotrščak Tower on the Promenade there is one of the shortest funiculars in the world only 66-meters long. It connects the Promenade with the Lower Town centre near Ilica Street. It runs every 10 minutes and one way lasts about a minute. It opened in the end of the 19th century and originally it was powered by steam.
If you walk down the Promenade to the left side from Lotrščak Tower, you will bump into the Statue of Antun Gustav Matoš, sitting on a bench, beckoning you to join him. The name Matoš is known by every little Croat as he was a popular writer and journalist and also a big enthusiast of Zagreb, often exalting the bohemian life of the city in his newspaper columns."

"This Promenade is a walk in the Upper Town with picturesque views of the Lower Town. A lot of events are organized there especially in winter, like the Christmas Market, or in summer."
