"Lëkurës Castle is a ruined fortress in Lëkurës, in the south of Albania. The castle is on a strategic hill point overlooking the city of Saranda, southeast of the city center. From here the whole city can be controlled, as well as the islands of Ksamil.
It is thought by historians to have been built around 1537, at the time when Sultan Suleimani attacked Corfu and it was necessary for him to control the Pier of Saranda and the road that connects to Butrint.
The region traditionally belonged to the southern part of the Himara region. At the end of the 18th century, the castle was attacked by Ali Pasha Tepelena.
The castle once supported the old village of Lëkurës. It has a square shape with two round towers in the north-west and south-east corners. To climb the fort, visitors must leave the main road at the Sixth Neck and climb the town hill from the other side of town.
Today, tourist facilities are built near the castle (restaurant, etc.) in a similar architectural style."

"Kalaja e Lëkurësit, or Lëkurësi Castle, is a historic hilltop fortress overlooking the town of Sarandë, Albania. Built in the 16th century by the Ottomans, the castle offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, Sarandë, and even the nearby island of Corfu. A popular spot for sunset, it’s a scenic destination for those interested in history and Albanian culture. Today, visitors can explore the ruins and enjoy a meal or drink at the castle’s terrace restaurant, taking in one of the best views along Albania’s Riviera. "

"You can reach this by car, taxi or by hike from Saranda.
I absolutely recommend getting there between 19:00 to 20:00 for the best sunset over the city and the coast.
Although the castle is closed at the time, i strongly believe the sunset is a bit more spectacular :d
There is also a restaurant inside it, but i dont' recommend - totally tourist trap with rude staff and bad reviews from tourists.
But for 1 drink i think it's safe. "
