Miradouro Ilheus da Ribeira da Janela

"Ilhéus da Ribeira da Janela is an incredible coastal attraction with some truly remarkable rock formations just meters from the north coast of Madeira. Visitors can watch the sunrise over the ocean from the beach while watching thousands of swallows as they circle the peculiarly shaped rocks. The islets are made up of three small islands with their respective names. The smallest is Ilheuzinho, then we have Ilhéu da Rama and the largest and most famous of all, called Ilhéu Alto or Ilhéu Comprido. It is about 40 meters tall, or the equivalent of a 13-story building. At the top, there is an opening in the rock, something similar to a window, which gives rise to the name of the parish in which the islets are located, Ribeira da Janela. The place is perfect for sunrise, with views along the rugged coastline receiving a golden glow from the sun. You can actually see the sun rise directly over the ocean on a clear day or witness it burst through the clouds if you have a cloudier day. You will find a small staircase and tunnel down to the beach from the back, but this leads to exactly the same spot as you would find by simply walking along the river to the shore. I can only imagine it's for days when the tide is high and the swell is strong."
