What people say

"Laugavegur is one of the oldest streets in the city and also one of the largest, as it is approximately 2 kilometers long and runs through the historic center of Reykjavík. It has its origins in 1885, when a path was built by which women went up to the Laugardalur thermal waters to wash their clothes: in fact, the name Laugavegur means "path of water". However, from 1930 onwards, the path evolved at the same time as the city, and ended up becoming the most beautiful street in Reykjavík thanks to its picturesque and eye-catching Icelandic-style buildings. Therefore, this pedestrian-only street is considered the epicenter of the city's historic center, as it runs completely through it. Therefore, Laugavegur is one of the best areas to sleep in Reykjavík, although it is also one of the most expensive, especially during high season."

"Laugavegur (Wash Street) is one of the oldest shopping streets in Reykjavík. It was built in the late-19th century to lead to the hot springs, where people (probably women) went to wash their clothes. Now shops, restaurants, and bars line the street, and it's always crowded. That doesn't mean you won't find yourself wandering up it at least a few times."
"To walk around Laugavegur Street in the centre of the city is a must when staying in Reykjavík! Get lost exploring the souvenir shops, artisanal and local stores, coffees, and, of course, stop by the Rainbow Street! 🌈"
