"Originally built as a monastery in 1368, it now houses a museum. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks of Naples, sitting dramatically atop the Vomero hill. The monastery was expanded and decorated in the 16th and 17th centuries by some of Italy’s finest artists and is a stunning example of the architecture of the Neapolitan Baroque period.
Today, the building displays frescoes and paintings by artists like Francesco Solimena, Giuseppe de Ribera, and Battista Caracciolo, alongside Spanish and Bourbon-era artifacts. The museum's highlight, however, is the collection of rare presepi (Nativity scenes) from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Don’t miss exploring the atmospheric Sotterranei Gotici (Gothic basement) below the Certosa.

"Sometimes overlooked but an alternative museum to see a great view of the city. This was once a monastery and has incredible architecture as well as a beautiful garden.
Worth a stop one afternoon! Also because it is often more empty than other famous viewpoints. "
