Required: ***Attending law enforcement officers are required to wear their badge on their outermost garment and carry two forms of current government and legible ID, including their department's credentials. The Secret Service screens everyone entering Capitol Grounds for the ceremony.*** The Annual National Peace Officers' Memorial Service, sponsored by the Grand Lodge Fraternal Order of Police and the Grand Lodge Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary, is a moving and significant event held each year during National Police Week. Taking place on the West Front of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., the service primarily honors officers who have recently made the ultimate sacrifice, while also paying tribute to all fallen officers. Starting at 12 noon and lasting approximately 3.5 hours, the memorial service features speeches, prayers, and musical performances, creating an engaging and emotional atmosphere. Seats are only available surviving family members, escorts officers, and authorized guests. Getting there early won't get you seat but will get you a location with a better view or in the shade. Surviving family members, friends, colleagues, and law enforcement professionals from across the country gather to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The President of the United States often attends the event, delivering a speech to express gratitude and support for the law enforcement community. The Annual National Peace Officers' Memorial Service not only honors the dedication, bravery, and selflessness of law enforcement officers, but also serves as a reminder of the risks they face daily to ensure the safety and security of the public.
