"Craving an espresso and a little Italian breakfast? Then visit this family-run artisanal bakery, located in the "Oltrarno" ("across-the-arno-river") neighborhood, which has been serving some of the best pastries in town since 1949.
They have the usual suspects of Italian pastry shops, like some fabulous "cornetti" (similar to croissants, but not so buttery), plus interesting concoctions like the occasional beet or spirulina cookies, hard-to-find gluten-free options, and artisanal jams.
Be on the lookout for seasonal baked goods like:
- schiacciata alla fiorentina farcita;
- castagnaccio;
- cenci;
- frittelle.
This a great place for a savory breakfast as well (a rarity for Tuscany), try:
- bakery pizza;
- egg, ham and lettuce panino;
- sweet-and-salty cornetto or schiacciata with ham and cheese (yum).
Fun fact: youโll see a sign reading โqui arrivรฒ lโArnoโ which refers to how far up the 1966 flood arrived inside the bakery. You can find signs like these all over the city. "

"The Buonamici Artisan Pastry Shop is located in Oltrarno, in the beautiful and historic district of San Frediano.
Since 1949, the year of its birth, it has delighted Florentines with high quality artisanal desserts, made with the best raw materials, without the use of semi-finished products and with the passion that has distinguished the Buonamici family's business for 3 generations.
A fixed destination for the inhabitants and shopkeepers of the neighborhood, but also for tourists and others who come from every corner of Florence, the Pasticceria is a meeting point from the morning, with coffee service and freshly baked pastries.
Furthermore, a few steps from the pastry shop, Buonamici A Bottega has recently opened, a space dedicated to courses, experiences and the purchase of high quality food products"
