What people say

"Moderna Museet, located on Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm, is Sweden's state museum for modern and contemporary art, opened in 1958. In 2009, the museum expanded by opening a second location in Malmö. The museum's impressive collection includes works by world-renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Henri Matisse, and Robert Rauschenberg, alongside key contemporary acquisitions. One notable piece in the museum's collection is a model of Tatlin's Tower. On November 8, 1993, the museum made headlines when six Picasso works and two by Georges Braque were stolen in a high-profile heist. The burglars used a method inspired by the 1955 French film *Rififi*, entering the museum through the roof at night. Most of the stolen works were later recovered, though one Braque piece remains missing. In 2005, Pontus Hultén, a former museum director, bequeathed over 700 works of art, along with his archive and library, to the museum. Many pieces from this collection are displayed in the Pontus Hultén Study Gallery, a space purpose-built for their exhibition. The museum also features an outdoor sculpture park with works by artists from various nationalities. Highlights include Alexander Calder's *The Four Elements* (1961), Pablo Picasso and Carl Nesjar's *Déjeuner sur l'herbe* (1962), and Joseph Kosuth's *Freedom and Belief (their own affair)* (1998). Originally housed in Exercishuset on Skeppsholmen, the museum temporarily relocated between 1994 and 1998 to Spårvägshallarna while its new building, designed by Spanish architect Rafael Moneo, was being constructed. The Pontus Hultén Study Gallery within the museum was designed by Renzo Piano. Moderna Museet is also connected to the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design. The museum remains an active venue for contemporary art exhibitions and events. In 2005, it hosted the *onedotzero* festival, which featured screenings, installations, and live audio-visual performances aimed at attracting a younger audience."

"A wide variety of artistic creation is on display here. Everything from the absolutely stunning and thought-provoking to the downright weird and obscure. I highly recommend Cafe Blom inside if you're looking for a light lunch."
