Some departments require officers dress in their uniforms especially if they are representing a fallen officer. Other departments require a department polo and pants. If you are just attending the event without representing a department, you can get away with smart casual. The 36th Annual Candlelight Vigil will take place on Saturday, May 13th, on the National Mall (between 4th and 7th Streets and Madison and Jefferson Drives) in Washington, D.C. Hosted by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, this hallmark event of National Police Week features a formal dedication of the names engraved on the Memorial Wall that year. The ceremony on the National Mall includes candle lighting, name readings, speeches by dignitaries, and musical performances to honor the memory of the fallen heroes. "
