"🇮🇸 Located in Snaefellsjokull National Park, the Saxhóll Crater is visible from the road.
🚗 Drive down the short gravel road to an informal parking lot.
👆It´s not a challenging climb to the top of the crater, as a set of low metal stairs were installed to make the walk easier and protect from erosion.
☀️ On a clear day, the views from the top are amazing. Look out over the lava fields towards the ocean and back to Snæfellsjökull.
🌋The volcano that exploded here happened around 4,000 years ago, so the caldera is no longer filled with lava but green moss.

"5. stop
– a pleasant short stop
- steps lead to the crater, approx. 10 minutes uphill -the crater is approximately 3000-4000 years old
- on top of the crater you will find the names of the surrounding hills
- as on every hill in Iceland, it can be unpleasantly windy! "

" Volcanic crater. Really boring views inside the crater, but good 360 views form the top. Only takes like 20 minutes to walk up."
