What people say

"Penland School of Craft is a residential program, with workshops as short as a weekend to as long as 8 weeks. Study photography, textile arts, papermaking, woodworking, ceramics, glassblowing, iron work, and more in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina! Each workshop concludes with an opportunity for you to show your work. Notes: REGISTER EARLY. Plan your Penland experiences at least 4-6 months in advance. Penland courses are open to students of all skill levels. Students must be 18 years or older. Most students choose to live on the grounds during their workshop, but you can choose to stay elsewhere and commute in for your workshops. If you're so inclined, you can receive university course credit for your Penland experience. Check Penland's website for details on this opportunity. NOTE: Penland School of Craft was heavily impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Helene that swept through Southern Appalachia on September 27, 2024. They are working to restore their property and resume classes in 2025, which will start a month later than originally planned. Registration for 2025 classes and workshops will open November 15, 2024. Please check their Facebook page linked below and website for most recent updates and to sign up for 2025 classes and workshops! "
