Located on the East side of Canada, most people might first think about New England or maybe Ontario for a Fall road trip. But Quebec has so much to offer! Starting in the vibrant city of Montreal, this itinerary will take you to the best places to drown in an ocean of orange forests, between city trips and nature 🍁

This guide is best suited for road trip enthusiasts and avid travelers who want to see as much as possible in a limited time. There is little time for relaxation, expect to be exploring and driving every day (on average 3 hours per day), but it will be absolutely worth it!

Montreal Travel Guide

Montreal is definitely a top city to in North America and if you’re asking whether Montreal is worth visiting, the answer is absolutely YES! A visit to Canada is not complete without visiting this historical city. There is a lot to see and do and since I live here, I thought it would be helpful to put together an itinerary of the best things to do to help you make the best use of your time when visiting Montreal.

Montreal is a very walkable city. There is also an underground path connecting different parts of the city, for those colder days. The Metro and bus systems connect popular parts of the island efficiently. In the summer, you can also rent BIXIs and make your way around town using the many bike paths.

As a local, I recommend a minimum of 3 days but would say 4 days is best to perfectly capture the vibes of the city, see everything and try all the food possible at a relaxed pace.

La Banquise

Now let's be serious, you can't possibly go to Montreal without trying a local poutine. And when we're talking about poutines, La Banquise is an institution. What is poutine you may ask? It's a traditional meal from Quebec made of fries, a very special cheese and gravy. Another very "light" specialty right? And at La Banquise, they have a crazy selection of toppings you can add to your traditional poutine. Be aware that it's an extremely popular place and you may wait in line for some time, but it's worth it!  

Open 24/7, La Banquise is a famous poutine destination for locals and tourists alike. They have over 30 different types of poutine, each with their own funky name! 

A personaly favourite of mine is "La Taquise" - think nachos x poutine.   

The poutine place to go too in Montreal. Day & Night they're a dependable location for that godly Poutine. 

Can be really busy in the summer, they do offer takeout, which is a good idea for a picnic in the nearby park, Plateau Royal.

Depending on the season and time of the day, there might be a long line outside. You can either dine in or order take out and walk to Park La Fontaine and have a quick picnic while people watching!
