What people say

"The Museum of Popular Arts and Customs of Seville, created in 1972, is a museum dedicated to Andalusian ethnological heritage, both tangible and intangible, in whose rooms objects and utensils are displayed that document the customs, knowledge and ways of life typical of the traditional culture of the area. It is located in the Mudejar pavilion, a building designed by the architect Aníbal González for the Ibero-American Exhibition of 1929. This location in the pavilion was due to the transfer of use of this building, first partially and then completely, by the City Council of Seville to the State. Its most important collections are those of ceramics, clothing and crafts from Andalusia. Also of note are the Aguiar collection of costumbrista paintings, the Soria collection of oriental earthenware and ivory, the Gestoso collection of ceramics and, above all, the Díaz Velázquez collection of lace and embroidery, one of the most important in Europe and which could constitute an independent monographic museum on its own, with its almost 6,000 pieces. Furthermore, the Seville City Council has deposited its collection of original posters for the spring festivals of Seville in the museum. Among the additions of the last decade, the acquisition of the Loty collection stands out, made up of more than 2,000 old glass plates that contain details of Andalusian cities and life from the beginning of the 20th century until 1936, two collections of toys and one of more than 7,000 postcards. On the main or ground floor of the museum, the central room is dedicated to temporary exhibitions. The facilities open to the public include, in addition to the permanent and temporary exhibition rooms, the recreation of a wine cellar in Condado de Huelva, an audiovisual projection room where visitors can watch documentaries on traditional Andalusian life, a room for educational activities and the library, specialising in Anthropology and Museology. There is also a computer station that offers a program for consulting the Loty photography collection."
