The Settlement Exhibition

"The Settlement Exhibition is a modern, interactive museum in central Reykjavík, built on the ruins of an ancient Viking house. This building was discovered recently, in 2001, and it was then that it was decided to build a museum around it. Thanks to the free audio guide, information panels (in English and Icelandic) and the museum's audiovisual systems, visitors are transported to the 9th century AD, the period in which the first settlements in Iceland's history are usually dated. The visit to The Settlement Exhibition is interesting, both for the information and the objects on display there and for the fact that the museum is literally next to the house where these Viking settlers lived in Reykjavík. However, the experience at The Settlement Exhibition may be somewhat disappointing for those expecting to find ruins similar to those in Rome or Athens, as this is not the case. It's a place where imagination and the museum's holographic tricks are much needed to understand what life was like in Iceland during the Viking era."
