Important Tip for Celiacs in Tokyo:

Tokyo is humongous and it's crucial for anyone who is celiac/gluten free to stay in Shibuya - where most gluten free restaurants are. Even within Shibuya, you can expect 30 minute commutes or longer so it's really crucial to be within Shibuya to minimize your commute to be able to eat properly.

Best Gluten Free Restaurants in Kyoto

Toshoan
@lauradolcitravels
Toshoan is a cafe, bakery, and shop all in one! This is a great place to grab breakfast, or a pick-me-up, and to shop for some Japanese delicacies to bring back home or eat during your travels. They are 100% gluten free, using rice flour, and they make PHENOMENAL Japanese Soufflé Pancakes. I got matcha flavored pancakes and they were to die for. Their iced-latte was also delicious. Here one of the products they sell is the famous mizu shingen mochi, the viral "raindrop cake" / "water mochi".

Teuchi Toru Soba
@lauradolcitravels
Soba are buckwheat noodles, and when they are made 100% with buckwheat, they are gluten free. This restaurant makes their own buckwheat flour and their own soba every morning - making them naturally gluten free. This is not a dedicated GF restaurant, so make sure to mention your allergy and ask for the gluten free options/menu. Important Note: Not all soba noodles are always gluten free, as some other restaurants might add a little bit of regular flour. Always confirm its 100% buckwheat.

Gion Soy Milk Ramen Uno Yokiko
@lauradolcitravels
This is a 100% gluten free and vegan restaurant. As a non-vegan, I personally struggled to finish my dishes due to the soy milk flavor. With that said, the restaurant makes high-quality and great dishes and I definitely recommend it - especially if you're vegan or don't mind vegan flavors.

Cafe Tamon
@lauradolcitravels
Cafe Tamon makes 100% gluten free pancakes, which are made with their rice flour. While their soufflé pancakes are gluten free, the ingredients they are topped with are not all gluten free - this means you'll need to specify your allergy and ask for the gluten free options. Aashirwad
@lauradolcitravels
I wish I could place this restaurant in my suitcase. Aashirwad is an Indian and Nepalese restaurant that can make gluten free and celiac-friendly dishes. This is the best Indian restaurant I've eaten in - it was truly spectacular - and the people here are nothing short of wonderful. At lunch time you have set menus, while at dinner time you have the whole menu to pick from. Because of the high-quality of this restaurant, expect to have a bit of wait for your food - its absolutely worth it. It's a small restaurant, so there is also a good chance you'll have to wait in line.
