where to stay?

Saigon Rooftops Hostel
@wenckestravel
had such a good time at this hostel! It was super clean and the staff was friendly. A big plus is the rooftop, it's really social and easy to meet travelers from all over the world. Breakfast was included and the first beer was free as well ;) amazing value and for sure you'll have a great time here!

I would recommend to stay two nights in Ho Chi Minh to explore the city and experience the nightlife, which is super fun!!

As I'm vegetarian I would like to share one of my favorite restaurants as well:

SEN Vegan Restaurant
@wenckestravel
I've been here three times during a two-night stay, so I can highly recommend this place!! Everything is made fresh and the owner is super nice. I'm vegetarian, but when I'm traveling in Asia, I really like to eat vegan, because you can make sure that you'll not getting surprised by finding a piece of meat/fish in your meal ;D

after two days it's time to get out of the big city, the question is how to get around Vietnam? Here some advice:

I never thought that Vietnam is such a big country but YES it is! I would recommend to take the night train for a long journey instead of the bus. I was always booking my trains and sometimes also buses through 12go.asia. I always found the cheapest deals over there. I also used two different types of buses during my trip. The normal sleeping bus and the VIP sleeping bus. If you want to book one of these buses, the best way is to book through a travel office or hostel. Compare the prices also online and then you'll see. The VIP bus was amazing, but a bit more expensive than the other one. I would try all three options of public transport, it's always a fun experience!

👉😍 next stop Hoi An, at least three nights

it's my favorite city in Vietnam! The city has so much to offer and it's super cute.

where to stay?

Mad Monkey Hoi An
@wenckestravel
This place is a MUST!! One of my favorite hostel in the world, I'm not joking :) If I had more time I would have stayed here way longer. The staff is amazing, every night there are free and fun events. Partys, game nights, pub crawls.. They also got a bar and restaurant here with fair prices. Super social, you'll make new friends for sure. You can also book tours through them. Bathrooms and rooms are great as well. It's a 10/10.

things to do:

Golden Hands Bridge
@wenckestravel
One of the most famous things to do in Vietnam. Probably you've seen this bridge already on social media. To avoid the crowd book your ticket before you're going and take the first cable car in the morning which is at 7am. Mostly it's really foggy in the morning, but still worth it go early, the pictures looked also great in the fog. Usually it's clearing up in the afternoon, but then the crowd is already there..

Thua Thien Hue
@wenckestravel
Some people are staying a few nights in Hue, I just went for one day and I've to say I would do it again like this. Hue is beautiful and full of history, make your way to Hue imperial city and explore. This is a UNESO world heritage site. I can also recommend to do the boat ride on the perfume river if the weather is great.

My Khe Beach
@wenckestravel
probably the closest beach from the city, great to enjoy a fresh coconut here and relax from the busy city ;)

👉 next stop: Ninh Binh, 2 nights

where to stay ?

The Banana Tree Hostel
@wenckestravel
amazing hostel! I would highly recommend to stay here. The outside area is amazing, with a big pool, a lot of fire pits for cold nights and also the food they're offering is amazing :) the staff was super friendly, clean dorms and privacy because of pod beds. Met great people here and the vibe is really relaxing. Close to the bus stop and everything is in walking/biking distance. They also got a bike rental place.

I would recommend to rent a bike from the hostel and explore the area by bike. There are beautiful paths through the wetlands, where you can see a lot of birds, beautiful nature and I also met some friendly locals working in the rice fields.

Bich Dong Pagoda

One of the most iconic sights to see in Ninh Binh. Beautiful gate and a traditional buddhist temple to see. You can hike up a small trek and get an amazing view. Visitors have to cover up their shoulder and knees.

Mua Cave
@wenckestravel
are you ready to climb up some stairs? It's definitely worth it to hike up all the stairs to get on top of the limestone mountain where you'll get an amazing view all over Ninh Binh.

👉next stop: Ha Giang (don't miss out on the Ha Giang Loop!! ) 5 nights

where to stay ?

mama hostel
@wenckestravel
If you want to do the Ha Giang Loop book it with this hostel! Had the best experience :) new motorbikes, amazing hosts, great homestays during the tour and mama's hostel is also great! Clean rooms and comfy beds, all you need before and after a 4 days motorbike tour.
Add to
Details

Ha Giang is a small town and there's not a lot to do BUT this town is famous for the Ha Giang Loop, which is a motorbike tour in the mountains. I would highly recommend to do this tour, it was really one of the best things I've done in my life.

I did the tour with mama's hostel, which you can see above. I would do it with them 100% again :) the tour is well organized and the staff is super friendly and helpful.

Usually, you're booking one night with mama's hostel and the next day you're starting the tour. You can decide if you want to do the three- or four-days tour. I would recommend the four days for sure! You can rent your motorbike here or you can also book an easy rider (a local who's riding the bike and you're sitting on the back). You can either go with a whole hostel group of usually 10-15 people or going by yourself. I would suggest to go with the hostel! You're meeting amazing people from all over the world and making new friends. Every night you're staying in different homestays and you're getting a local dinner and breakfast which is included in the tour. Stunning views, beautiful nature, fun rides and the biggest adventure is waiting for you!!

After the tour you're probably a bit tired so I would recommend to stay one more night at mama's hostel and then leaving the day afterwards.

👉next stop: Sapa, 2 nights

where to stay?

Lustig Hostel
@wenckestravel
amazing hostel to meet other traveler :) breakfast was for free, great balcony and they're offering hiking and trekking tours. A bit out of the center but still walkable. Clean dorms and bathrooms. You can leave your luggage here for free, if you want to go trekking.

two of my favorite restaurants in Sapa:

they're vegan restaurants, but also if you're not vegan it's worth it to check them out! Everything is freshly made and super delicious :) I would suggest to try a hot pot, it's a great experience and amazing for the cold nights.

Thong Dong Vegan Kitchen & Cafe
@wenckestravel
lovely vegan cafe and restaurant. My favorite here was the pumpkin soup :) I came back so many times during my stay here, also the pasta is great!!

Thong Dong Vegan 2

unique place, this restaurant is super cute!! You're sitting in a small 'hut' and also the garden is amazing. Try the hot pot, great experience and keeps you warm in the cold nights ;)

after Sapa I went to Ta Van which is just 10km away but in my opinion worth it to check it out! Especially if you like hiking and trekking you should go there, it's less touristy than Sapa. I would stay 2 extra nights in Ta Van. It's also great to get a local experience while staying at a local's house.

Mama Shu Shu Homestay
@wenckestravel
the best homestay I've done so far!! Mama Shushu the host and her family is amazing. They're so much fun and also the food and family dinner with them was great! If you are looking for a trekking tour book with Mama Shushu, I had a blast :)
