Info before you leave

Check List

- Have your hotel address, phone number and name of the hotel written down or on your phone that doesn’t require internet.

- Check where your hotel is located and what the best mode of transport is before leaving.

- Order your E-sim so you have internet ready. It will be cheaper than buying from the airport.

- Bring cash to exchange at a currency exchange office, To avoid fees on using the ATM.

- Have cash exchanged ready or make sure to get some cash from the ATM at the airport, since getting train tickets machine only accepts cash. When exchanging also make sure you have a few smaller bills since the machine only accepts small bills. ( if needed exchange the large bills at a conveniece store.

- The currency they use is New Taiwan Dollar (NT) or Taiwan Dollar (TWD). They are both the same currency. As some store may still use the old currency code.

Activities I recommend to pre-book

- Taipei 101

- Shine Sky Lantern

- Taipei Exhibition " Teamlab Future Park "

- Moaokong Gondola Cable Cart

Transportation options

- EasyCard (MRT Card) The easy card is your typical transportation card for the metro, Bus, Ferries, YouBike and some taxi’s. The card can also be used as payment method at most convenience stores, some department stores, supermarkets, parking lots and tourist attractions.

You can buy an EasyCard in every train stations, which mostly only sell the basic ones. If you are looking for a more fun card, I recommend not buying it at the airport but when you arrive in Taipei. Almost all the convenience stores will sell EasyCards with a print on it. That can vary from cartoons like Sanrio Characters, Anime, Taiwanese foods, animals etc.

[ TOPPING UP THE EASYCARD IS CASH ONLY ] You can top up the EasyCard at all convenience stores and all train stations.

The costs of an EasyCard is a TWD 100 non refundable deposit. (The cost of the deposit may vary on the print you buy on the card). Besides the deposit you will have to have credit on the card before using it. A standart adult card will be TWD 500, TWD 100 deposit with TWD 400 credit on the card ready to use.
