Victoria is home to a wide array of attractions that capture the essence of the city's history, culture, and charm. From iconic landmarks to those not-to-miss locations, these top five attractions are suitable for anyone looking to experience the best of what the city has to offer.
The BC Parliament Buildings, completed in 1898, dominate the harbour skyline with their stately presence. They blend neo-baroque architecture with intricate stonework.
Free guided and self-guided tours of the interior provide insights into British Columbia's history and government.
📷: The illuminated lights at night add an extra touch of magic, so don't forget to wander there at that time, too!
💎There is a beautiful rose garden tucked behind the buildings. It's a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of the Inner Harbour.
Victoria's Inner Harbour is the vibrant heart of the city, offering an enchanting mix of history, culture and stunning waterfront views.
Along with several historic landmarks (some of which are listed below), you can find a bustling walkway lined with street performers, local artisans, and food vendors.
It's an ideal place to soak in the city's lively atmosphere.
📷: The Inner Harbour is full of beautiful flowers during every season.
Fisherman's Wharf offers a unique and colourful addition to the Inner Harbour experience.
This charming floating village is home to an eclectic mix of houseboats, fresh seafood stalls, restaurants and quirky shops.
Visitors can grab a meal - the fish and chips are a must-try - and enjoy it at one of the many picnic tables.
💎There is a small dock near the end of the wharf where harbour seals often gather.
If you bring a small portion of fish (available for purchase at one of the vendors), you can watch the fish feed. Of course, be mindful not to touch them, as they are wild animals.
Step into history as you walk through the oldest Chinatown in Canada. This vibrant area is packed with charm, culture, and fascinating stories that are waiting to be discovered.
📷: As you wander, watch for Fan Tan Alley, the famously narrow passageway filled with unique shops and local treasures. At just under a metre wide at its narrowest point, it's a can't-miss photo opportunity!
The streets of Chinatown are also home to beautifully preserved heritage buildings and monuments.
Look for the old Chinese Public School Building, which is still in use today, and the Gate of Harmonious Interest, which marks the entrance to this historic neighbourhood.
Be sure to sample dim sum or pick up a unique souvenir while you are here!
This castle on the hill was built between 1887 and 1890 for Robert Dunsmuir, one of Western Canada's wealthiest and most influential men.
Unfortunately, he never had the chance to live in it, for he died one year before completion.
After his wife died in 1908, the estate passed through several owners and served several uses, including a military hospital, a college and a music conservatory.
In 1979, a private non-profit group was founded to restore the castle to its former glory. And today, as visitors wander through the many floors, they get a glimpse of how the wealthy lived in the late 1800s.
It's one of my favourite places to visit.
Admission rates apply.
👻 Some believe Robert Dunsmuir and his family members haunt the halls of his castle. Visitors and staff have reported several reports of paranormal activity.

A highlight for many visitors is the Salmon Run, which occurs annually from mid-October to early December.
During this time, thousands of salmon return to spawn in the Goldstream River, creating a spectacular natural event that's fascinating to witness. (The local black bears love it, too!).
