13 Day Cruise; Roundtrip from Auckland
Auckland Airport Arrival
You land in Auckland. Now what? What do you need to have readily available? First- your traveler declaration form. You can get that info at the link below. Second, your ID. Keep both out. You will go through several levels of security checks.
What to know about security? The eco-system in New Zealand is fragile. If you try to carry in items that are not allowed you will face an immediate fine of $400 and fines can go up to $100,000 and jail time. Definitely check the rules and be aware. There are 3 different screenings. Dogs will sniff everyone. If you are carrying items you marked "yes" to on your declaration you will go through additional screening. The big ones to watch for are dairy, fruit, vegetables and meats. They are not allowed in. Everything I had was packaged and I declared everything so I made it in. Plant-based items and snacks are what I carried. If you are not sure it's better to ask.
If you are honest and declare what you have you will go through less security. The scanners and dogs will catch you if you are not. One thing I'm glad I knew was to buy new hiking shoes. I hike through several US states and have been to farms. Items that have been around livestock have to go through additional bio-security screens. Leave time at the airport when you arrive for these screenings and getting your luggage. I was probably out in about 1.5 hours arrived at 9am.
