My Favorite Places in Sevilla

My Favorite Places in Sevilla

What to see, eat, and do here beyond the basics

Sevilla has recently become one of my favorite cities in Europe.

It's sunny, beautiful, perfectly sized, unbelievably welcoming, FUN, energetic, and has some of the best food I've had in Spain. It also has a fascinating history, and was traditionally a haven for beautiful religious coexistence. I think it's awesome that although it's been predominantly Catholic for a few centuries now, the remnants of what was are still on full display and considered a value-added to the mosaic of history and culture interwoven through the city.

Most people will tell you to go to Plaza de España and Parque de María Luisa, the Alcazar and the main Cathedral (both of which you should get tickets for ahead of time! At least the night before), but there is a LOT more to the city. They may have also mentioned a few things I'd consider way too touristy (any accomodations in the Centro area right next to all the shopping, or that weird mushroom sculpture thing that in my opinion is a total waste of money.. go to a rooftop bar instead if you want good views.)

I recently spent 4 days here and curated a list of my favorite places based on my own findings, recommendations from friends who have spent time before me, and places the locals love!

But first, this is the walking tour I did! This one in particular is run by some friends who grew up here, and the one who led my tour specifically is a history teacher in a local school. I would highly recommend them.

Parts of the City

Plaza de Doña Elvira
@sarahpollock
Gorgeous quiet plaza around the corner from the Alcazar. It's a hideaway of sorts considering that huge crowds of people are about 2 minutes away. Next time I'm in Sevilla I want to go to the restaurant in this square.

Calle Pureza

Perhaps my favorite street in the whole city is this street in Triana, a block or two away from the river. It's bright and beautiful and fun and there's lots of local bars/restaurants around to park yourself and take it all in.

Macarena
@sarahpollock
A quieter, very hip area a little bit outside of the city center. Super vibey. Great place to hang especially if you have a little bit of extra time on your hands.

Calle Adriano
@sarahpollock
Fun, lively street lined with bars and restaurants. Where I'd recommend you start if you want to hop around or want a good place to park yourself but don't know or care which exact place.

La Carbonería
@sarahpollock
This is where you want to go for Flamenco that doesn't cost 30+ euros. Entrance is free and I'm pretty sure they just require you to purchase a drink when you get there. The place itself has a cool patio outside and a big interesting room with very long tables for the whole crowd to squish together on. It's certainly not the most comfortable and it's not for everyone, but the flamenco is good and the deal is unbeatable.

Coffee Shops and Cafes

Delatribu
@sarahpollock
Great specialty coffee in the Jewish quarter, a few minutes from the Alcazar. There's no seating except for a tiny table outside, but it's a great to-go spot as you make your way strolling/sightseeing :) I went here twice. The iced latte and cappuccino in particular were both great.

More great specialty coffee. Particularly nice owners/workers here too. No complaints.

Biomio organic breakfast & brunch
@sarahpollock
Very very cute boutique "health" cafe on a cute cobblestoned street. A great daytime option for smoothies/salads when you need a break from Spanish food

Jester Specialty Coffee & Açai
@sarahpollock
GREAT specialty coffee/smoothies/breakfast spot. There's a few places just like this in close proximity but I don't think they're as good. Would recommend the smoothies with banana, kiwi, spinach, and spirulina with added protein! It's green without tasting green if you know what I mean.

Bars and Restaurants

Castizo tapas bar
@sarahpollock
The first meal I had in Sevilla and probably still the best. I got the tuna tartare toast and the daily rice dish and both were amazing. Service is quick and top notch too.

Bar Moraleja
@sarahpollock
A neighborhood bar not far from the river. It was close to where I stayed so I went with a few people late one night. It's definitely a more local spot (which also means it was well-priced lol) and the vibes were excellent.

Great great tapas. The tortilla here is probably the best I had in Sevilla.

Bar Dos de Mayo
@sarahpollock
Very well-known tapas institution. Worth going, but it can also get VERY crowded. Try to go for lunch or on an offtime when most are taking their siesta (the bar doesn't close in the afternoon!) if you can.

Cerveceria loli. Mercado de triana
@sarahpollock
Relatively well-known tapas spot in the middle of the Mercado de Triana. The guide on my walking tour told me about this one and thank god he did. Some of the best seafood I had in the whole city, and a great spot for individual portions of (seafood) paella. I was so fully and happy after

El Rinconcillo
@sarahpollock
THE oldest bar/restaurant in Madrid. Other than that, it's just another bar/restaurant, but it's beautiful inside and its historical significance is pretty cool.

Bar Casa Morales
@sarahpollock
This was a local recommendation for orange wine in particular. It's a long-standing family run bar and thought to be maybe the second oldest bar in Sevilla. And it's awesome and indeed very local.
