Strada Republicii
@amyisgoingplaces
Strada Republicii is the main walking street through the historic old city center of Brașov. The cobblestone streets are lined with cafes and shops. Most of the architecture dates from the late 1800's or before. Whether you go to rub shoulders with locals, eat on a terrace, or buy souvenirs, this area of Brașov is a must-visit!

AFI Shopping Mall
@amyisgoingplaces
AFI is one of the newer shopping malls in Brasov. You'll find chain stores, barbers, opticians, a Carrefour grocery store, a movie theater, and a large food court. My favorite part is the outdoor patio area past the food court. Enjoy your meal there with one of the city's best views of Mount Tampa and the iconic BRASOV sign. AFI is about a 30 minute walk from historic Brasov. There's a bus station at the mall entrance. If you're traveling by car, the mall has a parking garage for your convenience.

Coresi Shopping Center
@amyisgoingplaces
Coresi is the largest shopping mall in Brasov. It has several restaurants in addition to the food court. If you're traveling with kids, hop on the indoor trolley train the circles the mall interior. (Or do it on your own, we won't judge.) Coresi is easily accessible by city bus, taxi, or Uber/Bolt.

Star
@amyisgoingplaces
One of Brasov's older shopping malls, Star has the feel of a true "department store." Browse through 4 stories of departments for everything from mountain bikes to silk pajamas. Outside, look for a regular farmer's market of local produce and flowers. These vendors are often cash only, so visit an ATM on your way there.

Inspiratio
@amyisgoingplaces
Across from The Black Church, Inspiratio is a gift shop filled with made-in-Romania and other quality souvenirs. It also serves as the ticket office for tours and events at The Black Church.

Aldus Antique Books
@amyisgoingplaces
You could walk right past this perfect little antique bookstore in the shadows of Biserica Neagra, the Black Church. Many people do. But not you! Inside you'll find antique books on a variety of topics and in multiple languages. I wanted to buy more than I could carry. Take time to explore the antique postcards, some of which were stamped and sent decades ago while others are blank. The best part is the people who run the shop. I found them positively charming.

Cărturești Brașov
@amyisgoingplaces
Carturesti is a book store chain in Romania. Take your time to explore the shelves of books, games, teas, and gifting options. Upstairs you'll find a children's section and reading loft overlooking Piața Sfatului.

Eliana Mall
@amyisgoingplaces
On the north side of the city of Brasov is Eliana Mall. You'll find a different variety of stores here than in the other areas malls. Make sure to check it out if you're looking for something off the beaten path.

Gypsy Market Second Hand
@amyisgoingplaces
For something distinctly local, include the Gypsy Market in your Brasov shopping excursion. You never know what you'll find! Selections vary from stall to stall, from week to week. Most items are second hand, in good condition, and for cheap prices. Come prepared to pay cash for your bargains (there are numerous ATMs around town), and bring your own shopping bags to carry your new treasures!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
US native. Former resident of Romania. Current solo female globe trotter. I've ventured to more than a dozen countries across four continents as part of group tours, volunteer work, solo travel, studying abroad, and teaching internationally. I lived for over a year in Romania, many years in Tennessee, and several months in England. My travel style is slow, spontaneous, and - shall we say - richly flavorful. I prefer to stay longer lengths in places instead of having a whirlwind sightseeing venture. I'll skip the chain restaurants for a hole-in-the-wall café any day of the week. I prefer a loose itinerary and remain open to what each day brings. My favorite things to do and see as I travel are... - EAT - Try whatever is local. Order the special of the day. Talk with the restaurant staff. - WALK - It encourages me to slow down, notice, and get a feel for community. - HIKE - I'm a lazy hiker. By "hike," I mean a few hours at a slow pace. - MUSEUMS - Spend an afternoon. Read the descriptions on exhibits. Talk with the docents. Buy something in the giftshop. - CHURCHES - I'm fascinated by the various ways people have worshipped the God of the Bible over centuries and across borders. Many older churches are also museums or tourist-friendly spaces. Some additionally hold regular liturgical services. - CASTLES - Castles, fortresses, palaces, big ol' houses: these places transport me back in time. I imagine the people who built, lived in, and defended them. What would they think of how we now live? If this kind of travel sounds ideal to you, hit the Contact Me button! I'd love to help you experience slower, more meaningful travel. We'll discuss tips for how to make the most of your trip, with low stress, reasonable safety, affordability, and lots of fun.
