Jordan in 3 Days

Jordan in 3 Days

John Ainscough
Jordan isn't typically considered a destination for a long weekend. You can't explore its vast wonders in just a few days, right? We faced this exact dilemma a few months ago and wanted to make the most of our time. Here's our advice on seeing many of Jordan's incredible sights, including Petra, Wadi Rum, and the Dead Sea, in just 72 hours. We're not claiming you can see it all, but if three days is all you have, you can pack in some of the best experiences Jordan has to offer.

Booking Flights

We flew into Aqaba on Saturday morning, ready to start our Jordanian journey. Let's say you're off from Saturday to Monday. Book your flights for Friday night or Saturday Morning into Aqaba. From there, you can pick up your hire car and drive to Wadi Rum to kick off your trip. When it's time to fly home, you have options: we drove to Amman on the last day and caught a late-night flight back. Some prefer to fly out early the next morning to avoid a packed schedule. The choice is yours!

Day by Day

Day 1: Arrival in Aqaba and Wadi Rum

Morning: Arrival in Aqaba

Pick Up Your Car:  Welcome to Aqaba! Grab your hire car from the airport—freedom on four wheels. You're ready to roll.

Drive to Wadi Rum: Buckle up for a stunning one-hour drive through breathtaking desert landscapes. Have your camera ready!

Afternoon: Wadi Rum

Check-In at Aicha Luxury Camp: This isn't just any camp—think luxurious tents, and a setting straight out of a movie. Trust me, it's a desert dream come true.

Safari Time:  Hop on a jeep and let your guide show you the magic of Wadi Rum. We're talking towering rock formations, red sand dunes, and ancient petroglyphs. It's like Mars, but closer!

Star Gazing: After dinner, lay back and gaze at the stars. The desert sky is so clear, you’ll feel like you can touch the Milky Way.

Evening: Overnight in Wadi Rum

Relax and Unwind: Enjoy the serene desert night. Maybe sip some tea by the fire, or just soak in the silence. Tomorrow’s another big day!

Day 2: Exploring Petra

Morning: Departure from Wadi Rum

Drive to Petra: After breakfast, hit the road for Petra. It’s a two-hour drive—perfect for some road trip tunes and anticipation.

Afternoon: Petra by Night

Check-In at Your Petra Hotel:  Choose a cosy spot close to the entrance for convenience.

Petra by Night Tour: This is the stuff of legends. Walk through the candle-lit Siq to the Treasury, with Bedouin music setting the mood. It’s magical, mysterious, and unforgettable.

Evening: Overnight in Petra

Catch Some Zzzs: Get to bed early—you’ll need your energy for tomorrow’s adventures.

Day 3: Petra, Dead Sea, and Amman

Early Morning: Petra

Early Morning Tour of Petra: Rise and shine! Get to Petra as soon as it opens. Trust me, seeing the Treasury without the crowds is worth the early wake-up. Wander through the ancient city, discover the Monastery, and soak up the history.

Pro tip: a guide is not necessary and often rushes you.

Midday: Drive to Dead Sea

Drive to the Dead Sea: Time to hit the road again. It’s a scenic three-hour drive, so enjoy the changing landscapes.

Float at the Dead Sea: Find hotel or resort that allows day visitors for some serious relaxation. Float in the salty waters and slather on some therapeutic mud. Your skin will thank you! We found the cheapest one was Porto.
