Restaurant Guide to Saint Émilion, France

The Points Plan
Bordeaux and Saint Émilion guide to Restaurants, Coffee, and Wifi! We spent two weeks in the Saint Émilion region, which is wine heaven. The wine and food are excellent, but the wifi situation was more than tricky. Here are our recommendations.

Where we Stayed

This place was perfectly located just outside Saint-Émilion, the place was spacious and comfortable, they were dog friendly, AND most importantly, some of the nicest hosts we've ever stayed with. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking to unplug and enjoy the French countryside. Miles of paved roads winding between the vineyards are perfect for a walk, or bike ride. The hosts even have their own fantastic wine label!

Our Favorite Restaurants

There are so many amazing restaurants in this area, it was difficult to choose. We've never encountered a place with so many Michelin Starred restaurants. Below are our favorites, with the full budget spectrum in mind, from Michelin starred, to more backyard BBQ vibe, yet, everything was delicious.

Pro Tip: Make a reservation early and for every meal (even brunch!). These restaurants are small and fill up quickly. You will be turned away if you do not have a reservation.

Lard et Bouchon
@thepointsplan
This tops the list of our favorite restaurants in Saint Émilion (and there was a lot of competition). The staff was very friendly and the atmoshphere was different and cool (literally) as it was in a wine cellar. The best escargot we've had and overall a great value in an otherwise expensive little town.

La Table 38
@thepointsplan
Such a lovely little spot with a laid back attitude and a very friendly staff. The food was delicious and the prices were just slightly cheaper than the neighbors.

Le Bis By Baud et Millet
@thepointsplan
WOW, the smell alone when you enter is enough to make you want to stay for lunch and dinner. Charcuterie is amazing, and the steak was cooked on am open, wood fire in the fireplace with dried vine wood in the restaurant. Also the best Chicken Cordon Bleu you're going to find.

We loved this spot! Everything on the menu is great, not to mention the service and overall atmosphere of a quaint, French restaurant.

La Terrasse Rouge
@thepointsplan
The view here could not be beat! A beautiful spot overlooking tranquil vineyards with some pretty tasty dishes as well. Be advised, this one was on the more expensive side.

Pizza Pilino
@thepointsplan
Order ahead and pick-up in 90 minutes. They have so many flavors to offer and it's worth the wait. When else are you going to have a chance to try a foie gras pizza and love it?!? This is the most budget friendly option, but doesn't run short on flavor.

Le Melchior
@thepointsplan
Also a hotel, this restaurant places on the more budget friendly side of the spectrum with some pretty tasty meals as well.

Les Soeurs Guinguette

This was a great spot that was far more relaxed. Bring the kids and your dog for a few hours and enjoy this comfortable spot by the river.

 Bordeaux - a mini adventure

Bordeaux is a beautiful city full of history and delicious pastries. We stayed next door, in Saint-Émilion, but traveled into Bordeaux a few times because our Airbnb in the middle of a vineyard had, understandably, weak wifi.

Black List Café
@thepointsplan
WIFI, ahoy! Thank goodness for this place. The people are super friendly and the coffee is the best in town (imho). The free wifi is also a godsend after a hard search!

Peter Coffee Shop Bordeaux
@thepointsplan
Another great spot with free wifi. This is more roomy than Black List, but also fills up quickly with brunch reservations (even on a Friday morning). Make a reservation!

Boulangerie "Au Pétrin Moissagais"
@thepointsplan
This bakery has been using the same wood fired stove since 1765 and the pastries are out of this world good. It's worth the trip just to take a look inside at the old fashioned setting, but the pastries are not to be skipped!

Les Halles Bacalan
@thepointsplan
We loved checking this place out for lunch. A food hall where there's something for everyone. Bring your dog and sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine (or a beer!) and a huge variety of food
