5 day Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu

The 5-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu with Salkantay Trekking's Premium Edition is an adventure of a lifetime. This trek offered it all which is why we chose the Salkantay trek over the other treks to Machu Picchu. It was also in the rainy season and we were the last group of the season however, the breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, lush valleys, and diverse ecosystems made it all the much more enjoyable. While the journey is challenging, the flexibility and support provided by the guides make it manageable and rewarding. The premium edition ensures you stay in top-notch accommodations, including cozy mountain lodges and luxury campsites, and enjoy delicious meals prepared by expert chefs.

Each day, the chefs cook up a storm, providing ample energy for the trek ahead, keeping in mind the incredible early starts. The knowledgeable guides share fascinating insights into the history, culture, and natural wonders of the region, making each step of the journey even more enriching. Reaching the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu at the end of the trek is a reward beyond words, capping off an unforgettable adventure.

Meeting fellow trekkers along the way adds to the experience, creating a sense of shared accomplishment as you all go through the feelings of the trek together. Seeing Machu Picchu in person is a bucket-list item, and the indescribable feeling of reaching it after the hike is a true testament to human endurance and spirit.

We opted for the premium edition for the additional perks and we are glad we did. There are of course other companies and cheaper alternatives; however the service we received and the quality of the trip, was definitely value for money and would definitely go with this company for another hike in Peru in the future.

4-Day Amazon Tour

For those looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Peruvian Amazon, the 4-day Amazon tour is a must. Our journey to the Manu National Forest turned into a private tour, which was a delightful surprise. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and tailored the tour to our interests, providing an in-depth understanding of the local flora, fauna, and communities. Despite visiting in January, a less ideal season for wildlife viewing, we still had a fantastic experience learning about the Amazon's ecosystem. From boat rides along winding rivers to hikes through dense jungle, every moment was enjoyable (except for the bugs! Bring lots and lots of bug spray)

The Amazon is also a photographer’s dream, with countless opportunities to capture stunning images of the lush landscape and unique wildlife. There are so many different starting places to do tours to the Amazon rainforest and the Manu National Park was a great introduction to future trips to the Amazon from different sides.

2-Day Tour to Paracas and Huacachina

The 2-day tour to Paracas and Huacachina offers a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. In Paracas, we embarked on a scenic hike that led to a stunning sunset view, followed by a delicious lunch where we made our own Pisco Sour, the iconic Peruvian cocktail. The next day, the excitement continued in Huacachina, where sandboarding down the massive dunes was an exhilarating experience. Even if you’re scared of sandboarding, the adrenaline rush makes it worth trying. The 4WD dune buggy ride added an extra thrill, racing across the desert at high speeds. This tour, booked with Peru Hop, was well-organized despite the packed schedule, and we found the two days to be the perfect amount of time to soak in the highlights.

Unfortunately we were unable to do everything on the itinerary as the roads were blocked off and it was not safe to continue through however the tour guide adjusted the itinerary and took us to an alternative place which gave us more time to relax and enjoy the place. In this tour it was also included the boat trip to Ballestes Island where you can see the sea lions in their natural habitat.

Huacachina is not to be missed, and the adrenaline-fueled activities make it a memorable stop. Some travelers opt to stay an extra night, but we found that two days to be the perfect amount. This tour is a fantastic way to experience the diverse landscapes of Peru, from coastal beauty to desert adventures, all packed into a short but unforgettable journey.

There are so many incredible things to do and see in Peru! These are only a few that we were fortunate enough to be able to add to our itinerary.
