Mallorca Unlocked: Your First-Timer’s Key to Paradise

Alexis M.
Welcome to Mallorca, the crown jewel of Spain's Balearic Islands—a paradise where crystal-clear waters meet dramatic cliffs, and sun-drenched villages hold centuries of history. Whether you're drawn to the vibrant nightlife of Palma, the serene beauty of hidden coves, or the rustic charm of the Tramuntana mountains, Mallorca offers something for every kind of traveler. For first-time visitors, the sheer variety of things to do can feel overwhelming, but that’s where my guide comes in. I’ve carefully curated it to help you uncover the true essence of Mallorca.

Palma

The capital of Mallorca is Palma and this is the main city in the island. It’s like any other city but its still a vibrant place to visit and full of history and architecture to see. It would also be a place to consider to stay if you want to be central, close to the airport, and plan to get around the island by car.

North Side

Formentor is the northernmost point of Mallorca with stunning views and a rugged coastline. Definitely take the public bus 334 on the route as the road can get quite windy and I wouldn’t feel comfortable driving it. You can pay onboard with credit card and it will take you along the route to Plataja de Formentor and stops at the Lighthouse of the Cap de Formentor.

Platja de Formentor
@eyedrmeyer
This was my favorite beach we went to on the island. The water was perfect and it wasn’t too rocky or crowded.

South-East Side

I recommend either coming early (8-9 am) to the beaches or booking a boat to see the sights over here as dealing with crowds and parking can be stressful. I did this one when I was there and it took us up close to many of the beaches and sites to see and then gave us time to swim at Cala S’Almonia. Perfect for a half day trip.

If you want a more private experience I would book with the company linked below.

Cala Llombards
@eyedrmeyer
This beach can get crowded and parking is tiny but beautiful, Instagram worthy beach with quaint fisherman houses

Deià

Small but picturesque village in the Serra de Tramutana mountains. Not a lot to do unless you want to visit the TikTok famous El Olivo restaurant. Still worth the visit for the beautiful drive.

One of my favorite of the small towns to visit. There is a historic tramway you can take (purchase tickets on board) as well as plenty of cute boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and sites to wander through.
