Napoli: a weekend getaway
Flight Tickets - we found a really great deal with Wizz Air - direct flight from Prague to Naples - about €15 round trip
Safety: Although you see many articles about Naples not being safe, I consider it a safe city. You could walk outside the center at night, I recommend treating it like any other big city and keeping an eye on your belongings.
The airport is really close to the center, we used Alibus to get to the center - the ticket costs 5 EUR, you arrive near Garibaldi main train station - the ride takes about 10-15 minutes
Accommodation
📍 walking distance to the center - 10 minutes
🚊 8 minutes from the train station
📍Superò supermarket - 3 minutes walk (good prices)
nice host, always helpful
1. day - historic center of Naples
The historic center of Naples is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (it dates back to 470 BCE and carries layers upon layers of civilizations).
Busto di Pulcinella
One day is enough to visit the historic center of Naples and enjoy delicious pizza🍕🤌🏼 the city center is smaller than other Italian bigger cities but has some beautiful places to enjoy, Naples also has a pretty good history
You can always stop for a strong ☕️
Places to visit:
Piazza Bellini
2. day - Pompeii
🚊we took the train from Naples Central Station to Pompeii - it costs €3.30 and takes 30 minutes, the train runs every half hour
🎫right next to the train station is the ticket office - you can choose between two options €20 or €24 (all included), plus if you want a guide or not (we decided not to take a guide)
🏛️it takes about 3-4 hours to explore the amazing history in Pompeii
📍the city of Pompei (not the ruins) is more touristic and the food there is more expensive than in Naples (also the city itself is not worth visiting, rather go back to Naples)
Vesuvius national park
In the second half of the day you can also visit Vesuvius National Park (if you still have energy)
🎫you can buy tickets in the same office as for Pompeii - only this ticket costs €17 and you can only pay for it in cash
🚌in front of the ticket office you will find a bus that will take you to the entrance (costs around €3 - cash payment)
🌦️just check the weather before you go there if it's worth visiting or not (visibility is a bit important there)
This visit takes approximately 2-3 hours.
3. day - Sorrento
🚊the train to Sorrento runs every half hour and costs €8 (takes about an hour and a half)
📍Sorrento is considered part of the Amalfi Coast
🍋a beautiful and clean street to walk while exploring this city
🌊swimming and the beach are worth it on sunny days
☕️many restaurants and cafes
🍋many lemon trees
🍕Pizza, pasta and repeat 🤌🏼
☕️Favorite coffee spots
What else to visit:
Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most spectacular places to visit in Southern Italy, only about 50 km in length.
Charming historic towns perched on steep cliffs overlooking beautiful beaches and sparkling seas – that's why the Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You can get there by train (costs around 10 euros) or by ferry.
Capri
You can take the ferry from Naples to Capri yourself, which is a 50- to 70-minute journey depending on the ferry.
The first thing you should do when you come to Capri for a day trip is to take a boat trip around the island and admire iconic sights such as the Faraglioni and the sea caves.
You can also take the chairlift to the top of Monte Solaro.
Walk the Pizzolungo path to the natural arch.
Visit the Gardens of Augustus via the picturesque Via Krupp.
Ischia
Aside from the beaches in Ischia, you can enjoy the hot springs or hiking up to Mount Epomeo.
You can take the ferry from Naples to Ischia yourself, which is a 50- to 90-minute journey depending on the ferry.
Ischia is an idyllic small island off the coast of southern Italy, around 18 miles from the bustle of Naples.
It’s only around six miles wide, but manages to pack in an amazing number of attractions.
