A food guide for the Minho region 🥘

A food guide for the Minho region 🥘

Inês Ribeiro
The Minho region is located in the north of Portugal and holds 24 cities within the districts of Viana do Castelo and Braga. This is where Portugal was born, more specifically in Guimarães. Therefore, there’s no shortage of historical buildings and cultural events to visit and get to know the country's heritage in depth. 🏰 The famous Minho hospitality is synonymous with full tables, traditional dishes and fresh wines. 🍷 This is no place to come if you’re on a diet! If you want to taste the best of the local cuisine, this is definitely where you want to be!

Ponte de Lima

Encanada
@inestheexplorer
One of the many restaurants in Ponte de Lima famous for the traditional dishes of Papas de Sarrabulho and Sarrabulho Rice. It is a dish where rice is made with pig's blood and served with various shredded meats. It may sound disgusting to outsiders, but it's actually delicious! You can also try the cod fritters (bolinhos de bacalhau), which is a pastry made of potatoes and cod fish.

A Carvalheira
@inestheexplorer
Another great restaurant where you can eat Sarrabulho, as well as other delicious dishes. As a bonus, you can order the Portuguese Egg Custard, or Leite Creme as we call it, which is also a traditional dessert similar to crème brûlée.

Os Telhadinhos
@inestheexplorer
Small, hidden local gem. Serves all the traditional dishes but with a small twist: the names in the menu are slightly “spicy “.

Honestly, the best restaurant in Ponte de Lima is my mom’s house. She is the best cook! She’ll cook you the best Sarrabulho. Or, if you’re in a mood for comfort food, the Portuguese stew can also be a great fit. I don’t know about you, fellow Portuguese foodies, but it always reminds me of Sunday lunch with family.

And for dessert, our famous Arroz Doce or Sweet Rice.

Braga
