Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta, in my opinion, the best island to join Koh Lipe on the same trip, is located in the province of Krabi in the South of Thailand. Koh Lanta offers a perfect combination of forest, wildlife and dreamy beaches, which is ideal for any traveller! [Solo, teenagers, families, etc.] It is easily accessible by bus from Krabi or boat from Koh Lipe. The best time to go is from December to mid-April. I recommend going 3-4 days! we stayed for 3. In this guide, you can expect my recommendations on places of interest and tips for each! Enjoy and start looking to book the trip - you do not want to miss out on this one! Any questions or topics not mentioned do not hesitate to reach out! <3

How to get to Koh Lanta

We booked a speedboat from Koh Lipe to Koh Lanta - it takes 2h and it is a fix price of 1700 baht [44eur approx] [to date: jan 2024]. All agencies and operators must offer the same price, so do not bother comparing or bargaining!

Another option is to fly to Krabi, and take a Van / Bus to Koh Lanta. This takes about 3-4h and it is also very convenient.

Where to stay in Koh Lanta

I would recommend to stay either in Khlong Dao beach or in Pra-Ae beach [also known as Long Beach]. These two offer many nice hotels and beach clubs, but also many restaurants and places to go walking-distance in the street.

Sunset from any of the two are beautiful and will leave you speechless!

Tours / activities

4 island tour

From Koh Lanta, I would 10000% recommend you to do the 4 ISLAND TOUR. It is definitely worth it and will take a whole day.

We booked the tour at Lanta Triple Novel  - they offered 800 baht per person INCLUDING the national park fee [which is 200baht]. Ask your hotel / hostel for prices, but do not accept 1000 baht or prices without the fee - they will be overpriced.

Best price we found in the area INCLUDING the 200baht fee! [no unexpected payments]

We took a long-tail boat and we were given snorkel equipment, lunch and fresh fruit .

I do not want to spoil to much, but the emerald cave is OUT OF THIS WORLD.

National Park

Without booking any tour - you can spend a whole day in the National Park of Koh Lanta [at the south of Koh Lanta]. The fee is 200 baht and it has many things to see and do!

We loved to do the track - it was easy and we saw monkeys and amazing views. The lighthouse viewpoint is beautiful, too. Lastly, go to the KHLONG CHACK WATERFALL.

For the waterfall - DO NOT pay the fee again, since it is included in the national park fee [do not let them fool you] and PLEASE ask for a guide [should be offered]. We loved the waterfall but getting there is not easy, we got lost a couple times and it is the literal jungle!! The real path is not hard, easy for any age, but if you do not follow the correct path [like us] you can enter challenging areas and it is not fun.

do not pay fee twice - it is included in the National Park Fee if visited the same day. Please ask for a guide to avoid getting lost in the jungle. Worth the visit!

Having said that, the waterfall is beautiful and it is worth the visit for sure!

Lanta Old Town

Lanta Old town is very small, but is very authentic and nice to see. There are markets and many restaurants in floating piers. The town is very cute and worth visiting.

We recommend to go for dinner, so that you can enjoy the market but also the restaurants!

Overall recommendations

1. Wear cash at all times - as in the rest of Thailand

2. Rent a motorbike - very easy to drive, only 1 wide road, the best option

3. Negotiate prices with taxis!!

4. Wear mosquito repellent
