WHAT TO WEAR?

RED UNDERWEAR

Wearing red underwear on New Year’s Eve is said to bring good luck in love and romance for the coming year. The origins of this Spanish tradition come from the Middle Ages when red, the color of passion and prosperity, was prohibited by the Church. Thus, red had to be hidden in intimate garments!

TIPS:

Book far in advance, dress appropriatelly for the chilly weather and be prepared for the crowds. If you are choosing Madrid as your destination, keep in mind there is a limit for people on the square, which means you need to arrive some hours earlier to claim your spot.

LOS REYES MAGOS

Los Reyes Magos is celebrated on the 6th of January, while the parade takes place on the 5th of January each year, in most of Spanish cities. This parade is known as the "Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos", or Three Kings Day parade. It brings dancers, musicians, and other brilliant performers to the streets. Children get excited seeing Three Kings as well as picking up candies thrown by the performers and everybody has a great time!

SPANISH TRADITIONS

These are some of the most intresting traditions for a Spanish Christmas:-El Gordo

Almost everyone takes part in the Spanish National Lottery at Christmas time, making it the biggest lottery in the world. It’s so big, it’s called ‘El Gordo’ or ‘the Fat One’, because of the huge cash prizes of more than 2 billion euros. The winning numbers are announced on tv on the 22nd. It’s common for friends and coworkers to buy a share of a single ticket together and split the winnings.

-Portal de Beléns

These are the beautiful Christmas scenes found across Spain at Christmas time. They’re more than just a few figurines in a stable – these are huge and elaborate nativity scenes, with houses, markets, farms, rivers and all kinds of characters.
