Welcome to Seoul 🇰🇷 the vibrant capital city of South Korea!

Whether you're embarking on a solo adventure or traveling with a group, this travel blog post is here to provide you with some valuable tips and information to make the most of your trip 😄

QUICK NOTE: the text below is the same as the video so I’d recommend watching this instead 👇

FEW TIPS YOU MUST READ:

🍎 When it comes to payment methods, note that Apple Pay might not work everywhere except for convenience stores and select American outlets. So, it's good to have alternative payment options available.

💵 Currency here is Korean Won (KRW) ₩

🚨 In case of any emergencies or if you need assistance as a foreigner, save these hotline numbers for quick access. It's always better to be prepared:

- 119 fires and accidents

- 112 police

- 1330 foreigner assistance

If u don’t speak Korean and need ambulance or police. Informational for visa or tourist. lost and found. available 24/7.

🔌 The outlet plugs in Korea are type F & C (look like two circle dots) If you don't travel much you can get the one converter but I have this world one instead! (universal :))

Airline/Plane ticket:

Let's start with affordable airlines. If you're looking to fly on a budget, there are a couple of recommendations I have. Firstly, Jin Air is my top favorite for flights between Korea and Taiwan. Additionally, keep an eye out for Jeju Air and other airlines for more options.

✈️ If you're coming from the States or elsewhere, look at SKYSCANNER and AIRLINE WEBSITES for DEALS. I always check multiple times, you can look on GOOGLE FLIGHTS too

^ if you don't want a specific airline card, my best recommendation is CHASE SAPPHIRE PREFERRED (insane benefits, my everyday card)

Accommodation:

I've linked all the places I've stayed while solo/traveling, take a look at the korea ones! (currently still editing but if you're intersted DM me on Instagram!!!)

^ these are all hostels however I have stayed in Airbnb's too. Maybe eventually will add that but DM me if you'd like specifics!

Travel Requirements:

Previously, a K-eta was necessary for entry into Korea, but it seems that it's not a requirement anymore. However, I strongly suggest confirming this information before your trip. Contact the airline or relevant authorities to ensure you have the most up-to-date information.

Transportation (cards) in Seoul

For transportation within Seoul, there are 3 options for transport cards.

🚇 The most common is the T Money card, which you can easily get at any convenience store. Alternatively, you can opt for the Korea Tour Money card, which offers various discounts across different locations.

If you're looking for something more unique, consider getting the Namane card, where you can customize the design with your own photo. It's not only a transportation card but also functions as a debit card for payments at various establishments.

WATCH THIS VIDEO to see exactly what I'm talking about ^

Phone/Wifi/Data Plans:

In the past, I used to rely on Wi-Fi boxes and separate data packages.

📲 Nowadays, people often opt for eSIMs, but unfortunately, due to phone compatibility issues, I couldn't get one. However, I found that LG U+ works well for my friends. You can easily book it through KLOOK, which offers various options for SIM cards.

If you're unable to get an eSIM or book in advance, don't worry – you can easily purchase a SIM card at the airport.

Check the VIDEO for more details :)

Do I need to Know Korean?:

Language can sometimes be a barrier, but don't worry – learning a new language takes time.

🗣Even I rely on translator apps at times. However, it's always appreciated if you can say basic greetings like "hi" and "thank you" in the local language. It goes a long way in connecting with the locals.

You got this, don't worry, have fun, and good luck!

Helpful Apps:

📲 There are several useful apps to have during your time in Seoul:

> PAPAGO - better than google translate for Korean!!

> KAKAO TAXI - call taxis with this app (you can still use uber but it’s not as quick or convenient)

> KAKAO MAPS - best bus routes and times!!

> KAKAO TALK - THE Korean messenger, you can also reserve with some places like color matching @colorwings_official

> NAVER MAPS - depend on this guy, not google!! save food spots as well

> KAKAO METRO - use this to see subway routes easily as well as times~

VISIT KOREA - find lots of info about foods and tourist attractions of Korea travel here!!

> KLOOK - many foreigners get discounts booking tickets and all that on here, so be sure to check!! ✏️JOANNE5OFF discount ;) only onetimeuse!!

> SHUTTLE - not many food apps are available for foreigners but this one is!! And they also have a LARGE variety of cuisines to choose from (they also have grocery and beauty delivery!!) ✏️JUSTJOANNE code for $$ off! @shuttledelivery
