Thin House
@lauradehel
This insanely skinny house in Kensington is known as the Thin House and, at its narrowest end, is only 6ft wide!
Despite looking impossibly narrow from the southwest corner of Thurloe Square, it’s actually triangular, meaning it widens—albeit undramatically—from its skinniest point. It’s definitely one of London’s coolest optical illusions!

God's Own Junkyard
@lauradehel
Off the beaten path of Walthamstow, this museum / merchandise shop is a kaleidoscope of colour, eccentricity, quirkiness and charm. A cafe and bar area is surrounded by psychedelic wonderland of neon lights, vintage signs, old film props, religious statues, disco balls and retro signs.
Being in the colourful glow of the neon signs is so uplifting, cosy and fun and this welcoming warmth is reflected in the wonderful people that run God's Own Junkyard.
Cleverly curated, it's a feast for the eyes! A truly unique experience, really feels like the heart and soul of Walthamstow.

Café in the Crypt
@lauradehel
Would You Have Coffee in a Crypt Full of Graves in London?
Located in the stunning crypt of St Martin-in-the-Fields, at the edge of Trafalgar Square, this popular café has been a favourite of tourists and locals alike for 30 years.
Original brick-vaulted ceilings and historic tombstones lining the floor provide the backdrop to a daily changing menu of freshly prepared food, sustainably sourced whenever possible, and is great value for money for all to enjoy.
It's also the atmospheric setting of the Crypt Lates, where the iconic vaulted Crypt transforms into an atmospheric music and cabaret venue, with a fully-stocked bar and great food options.
In case you're not familiar with the term, a crypt is a stone chamber beneath the floor of a building that contains relics and coffins. Standing inside, you are sandwiched between the living above and the dead beneath.
Food is very hearty and affordable including tasty
British classics like berry cobbler or pies.

Wellcome Collection
@lauradehel
Billing itself as a museum for the ‘incurably curious’ the Wellcome displays a highly unusual mixture of medical artefacts and original artworks that explore the connections between medicine, life and art. Based on the huge and varied collections of Sir Henry Wellcome, the permanent displays are fascinating and occasionally macabre. The innovative and exciting special exhibitions have included shows on the subjects of death, the brain, sex and dirt.

The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, Fine Art & UnNatural History
@lauradehel
Beneath The Last Tuesday Society’s cocktail bar and literary salon lies Viktor Wynd’s collection of curiosities, fine art and natural history: a fascinating, bizarre and often grotesque assortment of objects that evoke the pre-enlightenment origins of museums. Butterflies, two-headed kittens and lambs, taxidermy, tribal art and occultist pieces are all on display, and much more besides.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Laura Dehelean
Hi! 🤗
I’m Laura - born and grown nearby the Romanian coasts of the Black Sea, in Constanta (a city with great history which I invite you all to visit and enjoy). This city and its surroundings, with beautiful, wide beaches have always drawn lots of tourists, thus… I have been working in the hospitality industry for quite a while now. Of course, I enjoy more being a tourist myself 😁(or perhaps…should I say “a traveler”?).
In the past few years I have travelled across Europe (and most of its capitals and big cities) and found out many special places which I longed to share with others (it would have been a pity not being able to do so nowadays).
So, thanks to Thatch I can provide some lists to help me and my friends out along our journeys - and, hopefully, other Thatchers as well.
P.S.1 I am always open to suggestions or feedback on how to improve the info that I’m sharing.
P.S.2 I am passionate about my shopping, therefore all my guides shall always include shopping venues that mainly sell authentic brands - bespoke souvenirs are what we want to take home with us, right?
P.S.3 My guides shall always include many venues/places because I like options. Personally, I wouldn’t cross half a city just to get to a specific restaurant…after a long day, in particular, I would rather find a good spot close to the hotel that I’m staying at (or somewhere in that area). Moreover, different trips in the same city could target a totally different area and wouldn’t it be nice to explore its best by knowing all the variety of services/products available around?
