Paris: Hotel Recommendations

Places we've personally stayed at in Paris France over the years that we'd recommend. Have also included places on our current list of places we want to try in future. There’s no airbnb recommendations on here. We have used airbnb in past for Paris but the places we stayed at are no longer available. This guide is FREE. If you've saved this at all or found this useful or shared it with a friend ---would be eternally grateful if you contributed a small tip.

Have Stayed At:

Paris hotels that we’ve stayed at at least once or longer.

Hôtel Odéon Saint Germain
@christinejolley
We stayed at the hotel for years and years enough so at one point the staff all knew our name. The location is fab and quite close to Jardin du Luxembourg and all the cute shops and things in St Germain. The decor is quite a bit of velvet but very comfortable. It’s been a while since I was there but I do believe at one point they had a room with a fab steam room. So it’s worth a check. Breakfasts are continental and didn’t change much the entire time we stayed there. There isn’t much of a lobby to relax in but they do have this and a nice fire in the winter. The prices are slightly on the more expensive side but with the area it’s understandable. Some of our favourite restaurants in the area include: Le Comptoir du Relais and Les Éditeurs. If you cross the street to the other side of the Odeon metro stop there’s loads of lovely side streets to wander through

Hôtel des Batignolles
@christinejolley
This was the first hotel we ever stayed in in Paris. We stayed here multiple times before moving to a hotel in St Germain (see list). It has been refurbished since we were last there and offers a much better breakfast as well. There’s a Saturday food market that’s lovely near here that we’ve bought snacks to make our own picnics to save money on food. The honey especially from here is lovely. A lot of the items are organic. There is also several boulangeries in the area that are wonderful to buy fresh baguettes to make sandwiches. The area is close to Parc Monceau which is lovely for quiet time or a run/walk. It’s also close to Musée jacquemart andre which is quite a unique museum and very instagrammable.

Le Relais Saint Germain
@christinejolley
Only stayed here once because it’s connected to Le Comptoir du Relais one of the better restaurants to go to in the area We of course loved the breakfast because it was from the restaurant. The hotel was nice and it’s in a good area quite close to Jardin du Luxembourg. We didn’t come back because they got upset because we couldn’t find the key initially and they didn’t have a backup? I’m hoping that this has changed since we were last there. It’s worth a stay if anything to have preferential access to booking the restaurant

The Hoxton, Paris
@christinejolley
The location is perfect. Within walking distance from Les Halles, some of the historical covered passages, Gare du Nord (if you're coming by train from London and the Eurostar), Palais-Royal and the Louvre. They've got multiple locations and do discounts if you join their membership scheme. All of their hotels are quite Instagrammable and very cute decor and I think they've been created with this crowd in mind. The breakfasts are fab. Anything with eggs is quite nice and their pain au chocolats. My partner and I are quite impartial to their burgers. In La Planche they do killer cheese, meat boards. They also have nice drinks both mocktails and alcoholic although its been a while since we've had those (we no longer drink). The rooms I'd recommend not doing the Shoebox as they are in the small size. For one person I'd recommend Cosy (or if you don't mind slightly squished 2). For two people and above I'd recommend the Roomy and Above. Some of the rooms have quite nice terraces you can sit out and have a drink so do ask. You can have snacks/drinks in the lobby but I have found since its become such a popular hotel with locals for remote working that its hit and miss for this.

Grands Boulevards Experimental
@christinejolley
This place is just around the corner from the Hoxton and quite central to the historic covered passages, Palais royal and the Louvre. It has a fab rooftop bar. Even though we don’t drink it was nice to go there and hang out. Breakfasts were good. Customer service was good. They upgraded us to one of their top rooms that had a glorious view of the rooftops for no extra price. Only thing I didn’t like was the lobby as it wasn’t particularly inviting to hang out and relax after a day sight seeing

Hotel Providence
@christinejolley
This is close to Marais and the canals and about a 10 minute walk from the grand passages. The decor is lovely and quite instagrammable . They upgraded us and our room had velvet wallpaper. It had probably the biggest tub and bathroom I’ve ever seen. There was a grocery store around the corner and you can sit downstairs for a drink or cup of tea. The food and breakfast is nice. Only thing I didn’t like was a smell of stale cigarettes and the cigarette smell wafting in from outside. There is a fireplace in the winter and they give discounts for return customers.

On our List:

Places to stay that we have earmarked to try out in future

L'Hôtel
@christinejolley
Haven't been here yet but what I like about it is its got a boutique feel. Its also the last home of Oscar Wilde. You can stay even stay in the Oscar Wilde suite. People like Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and Salvador Dali stayed here as well. Its in the Saint Germain area (Left Bank) which is a very good location to be for all the sites. They also do regular Jazz nights. I mean Jazz in Paris---yes please! They also have a hammam pool and steam room. The price is surprisingly reasonable for Paris for a hotel with 5 stars and what you get as well. Looking at trip advisor it does appear that they serve breakfast although I can't vouge for the quality of them yet.

Hôtel Chopin Grands-Boulevards Paris
@christinejolley
We haven’t been here yet but it’s been on our list for a while. What has intrigued us about this hotel is it’s right in the centre of grand boulevard passages and quite historic. I think the rooms are simple and it’s a small hotel but what an interesting experience to stay at and the prices are reasonable too:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I'm an American in London who has lived here over 20 years. I adore travelling and our trips (my partner and I) always involve something artsy (gallery, museum), nature, exercise, wandering, good food and lots of cafe stops. Besides London have spent serious amounts of time in Paris France although my french is a work in progress. I will always try to recommend places my partner and I been to personally. We have done backpacking through Thailand, Morocco and Egypt, done mid range hotels through Europe and have done luxury too where we've eaten at Michelin Restaurants and stayed at Posh hotels. So a real range in our holidays but we always try to have a good balance in whatever we do. Here to give you suggestions on London from the perspective of someone who has lived here quite a long time. Will also share itineraries on other places I've been to in Europe and elsewhere.
