I am a huge foodie and while I lived in Tokyo, I ate my way around the city. Throughout the 2 years I lived in Tokyo, here are my all-time favorite locations in the city!

Traditional Japanese Food

The best locations to eat traditional Japanese food in a traditional setting.

Tonkatsu Hasegawa
@coney
This tonkatsu restaurant is a hidden gem that brings the authentic flavors of Japan's beloved breaded and deep-fried pork cutlets to life. The tonkatsu here is a masterpiece of crispy perfection, with a golden-brown, light and airy coating that encases juicy, tender meat. The menu offers a variety of tonkatsu options. The accompanying cabbage, rice, and tangy tonkatsu sauce complete the meal, creating a delightful symphony of flavors. The attentive service and cozy atmosphere make this restaurant a must-visit for tonkatsu enthusiasts seeking a true taste of Japan.

Isshin Daikanyama
@coney
A very cozy and trendy restaurant for traditional Japanese food. My local Japanese friend took me to eat their famous braised pork belly set meal, and it was delicious! They also provide free refills on rice. It is a very popular spot for lunch, so be prepared to queue for a while.

Nihonbashi Tendon Kaneko Hannosuke Nihonbashi Main Shop
@coney
Kaneko Hannosuke serves a traditional Edo period style Tempura dish “Tendon” (Tempura on rice bowl). One of the best Tendon in Tokyo! You can watch the chef making it right in front of you.
