Here are some Unique Experiences that you can only get in Japan!

Let's start off this guide with one of the most underrated local dishes to Osaka - Kushikatsu. Enjoy deep fried meats and veggies in this intimate izakaya. Though the seat charge is 700 yen, all of the items range from 80 - 350 yen each. The owners are very nice and I highly recommend getting the salmon for it's creamy topping and absolutely delicious flavor!

Kushikatsu Agetenka
@travelwithgxbby
This kushikatsu is the BEST that I've had in all of Osaka! Not only is it one of the main local dishes of the city, but this little spot makes them fresh in front of you to deliver the BEST possible flavor! I highly recommend getting the: salmon, quail egg, crab, scallop adductor, Japanese beef and pork sausage. They're all SOOOO GOOD and cost less than 300 yen per piece. Just note that this spot has a cover charge of 700 per person. Average spend: 3000 yen per person

Up next is one of my favorite places! Here, you have to eat with your hands and the staff has frequent dance parties with the guests! Enjoy a seafood boil with friends along with cocktails that are absolutely delicious!

DANCING CRAB OSAKA
@travelwithgxbby
This wacky restaurant makes you eat with your HANDS! They serve up a HUGE seafood boil and give you some gloves and tongs to get through everything. It's a huge portion so I'd recommend eating the meat items first. (I couldn't finish everything, there's a lot of potatoes and veggies that fill you up fast!) They also have great drinks and an hourly performance with the waitresses! And make sure to go at lunch time when the prices are cheaper! Average spend: 4000 yen per person

Next, try your hand at fishing and catch your own lunch at this spot!

Zauo Fishing Restaurant
@travelwithgxbby
This restaurant has a unique concept where you have to catch your own fish. It seems like a lot of fun but if you're not very good at fishing (like me!) maybe you should stick to traditional restaurants lol Expect to spend around 3000 yen here.

Then, get served a smoothie from a hole in the wall!

Bear Paw Cafe
@travelwithgxbby
This is a truly Instagrammable experience for a good cause. Get your drinks and snacks served to you by a cute little bear paw peeping out of a wall. Play rock, paper, scissors with them if they have the time. The truth is, these workers are extremely shy and some have mental issues. Through their work, they are able to interact positively with the public and feel a sense of purpose in life! Average spend: 1000 yen

If you're looking for something RIDICULOUS, why not try Osaka's Frozen Food Buffet?

Ren-tin Shokudo
@travelwithgxbby
This restaurant has been highly recommended to me. It's an ALL YOU CAN EAT frozen food buffet. It's an experience and quirky little store more than anything else, but you can find many popular frozen food items at their store. You can also play the crane machines for free. Please be respectful of this restaurant by cleaning up after yourself. Expect to spend: 2500 yen per hour on the weekend with access to alcoholic beverages.

If you want a wild card here it is -- an absolute banger for the locals is this cold cream in this hot dog bun. Don't ask me, it's an absolute hit with Japanese people every time but I personally will not be partaking lol. Honestly, kudos to you if you try this one!

In the mood for Ramen? Check out my top picks!

Ramen Zundo-Ya Shinsaibashi
@travelwithgxbby
This 24 hour ramen restaurant is some of the best ramen I've had while living in Japan. This is hands down one of THE BEST ramen restaurants in my opinion. It's also great after a long night of drinking and partying to sober up before first train comes round at 5:00am Payment is made via a vending machine. It should also have an English or Language option somewhere displayed on the screen for ease of use to you.

Kyushu Ramen Kio Dojima
@travelwithgxbby
THIS IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE RAMEN IN ALL OF JAPAN. Why isn't it listed first? Because I shared the name of the place ONCE and now I have to wait 45 minutes in line for a bowl of ramen. In fact, I've found a new location for this chain restaurant and trust me when I say that I will NEVER post it on Social Media. But trust me, a 30-45 minute wait is WORTH it for this Ramen. I highly recommend getting the red spicy ramen with an extra piece of meat! Average spend: 1200 yen

Mugen Ramen
@travelwithgxbby
This is another highly rated ramen restaurant in Osaka. Be sure to try the sea-bream salted ramen as it's a huge hit among their customers. I've also heard that the char sui rice bowl and gyoza are really good here too.

Ippudo Horie

Namba Ramen Ichiza

Cafe & Ramen unchi coffee
@travelwithgxbby
This shop has a unique presentation when it comes to their Ramen. The broth flavor is really good and they have many options and side dishes to choose from. My favorite thing about this place is that "unchi" is the Japanese word for "poop" -- so the name of this cafe quite literally translates to "poop coffee" 😂😂

Yeah yeah they serve ramen here... HAVE YOU SEEN THE NAME OF THIS PLACE?? It's like the only person who knew English picked several words out of a hat and put it together. But they did well because this place is usually PACKED. Beware, they do not have English menus and I've been told to stay away from the Micro Ramen. Everything else however gets resounding positive reviews both from friends and online strangers.

My friends have highly recommended this restaurant to me. I've had it on my bucket list for a while but haven't gotten a chance to go. Take the opportunity to visit here if you're around during the week as I usually see crowds on weekends when I'm usually free. Their specialty food is Gyoza and it's a relaxed and small dining environment inside of this izakaya. Be prepared to spend around 1000 - 2000 yen.

Sushi × Tempura Akira - Namba Shinsaibashi
@travelwithgxbby
This is a Japanese izakaya that serves small but tasty dishes. Please keep in mind that this is a small space, so your comfort may be limited and you may have to wait some time for you to enter the shop. However, I've heard good things about their menu, especially their shrimp tempura.

While we're on the topic, let's talk Tempura!

Tentei Namba Walk
@travelwithgxbby
This is some of the best tempura I've had in all of Osaka! Tucked away in Namba Walk (the underground "mall" in Osaka Namba station) -- this small restaurant definitely gives you a HUGE portion with fresh ingredients at a really great price. I had the shrimp tempura and rice with eggplant, potato and pumpkin, which tasted absolutely DELICIOUS! I paid 700 yen max for that dish.

Tendon Makino

This restaurant is REALLY popular, so please expect a line. After a 30-60 minute wait, you will find that it's all worth it because the tempura here is really fresh and delicious. I've heard so many wonderful things about this space, especially with how friendly staff treats everyone. With this place being so popular, try to plan around it with the wait time in mind. Keep an eye on their seasonal menus too. The Winter Wonderland Tempura Rice Bowl has been popular, including: monkfish, blowfish, shrimp, liver, eggplant, pepper and crown daisy!

I've been meaning to go to this restaurant for a WHILE. They have very generous portions at a great price. I've heard that the tempura is very fresh, crisp, crunchy and not too oily. For any tempura restaurant I'd highly recommend the shrimp bowl with lotus root and pumpkin.

Tempura Amatsuki

Tempura is one of the most popular foods in Japan, so no wonder I've been recommending a million spots for you to get the best tempura with minimal wait. All worth the price imo. Average spend: 5000 yen

This is the first tempura spot I'd been to in Japan and I keep coming back to it time and time again. I really like this concept. You order and pay through a machine. Then, you can sit and see the chefs at work. When everything is done, they will buzz you to collect. This is some of the best budget tempura I've had in all my years living in Japan! They also have free water and tea refills. Average spend: 1500 yen

I also have this huge list of miscellaneous Japanese restaurants so-

Kushikatsu Yokozunao Osakashinsekaihonten
@travelwithgxbby
This restaurant, owned by SUMO WRESTLERS, serves everything DEEP FRIED! They also have HUGE portions of food that are great to share with friends. My biggest recommendation for this place is to order in batches. What I mean is - one person should order their food and drink together, then the table should wait 5 minutes for another person to order. The reason this is, is because ALL of the food is fried and ALL of the food looks the same. I've had friends go in and not eat what they ordered because it got mixed up with someone else's so be sure to use this tip when you're out with friends! I highly recommend: 1. Pork belly 2. White fish 3. Oyster 4. Scallops 5. Shrimp 6. Eggplant 7. Lotus root (FAVE) 8. Quail egg 9. Cheese 10. Wiener They also have fried ice cream and chocolate bananas. My friends say they're good but I've never tried it. Are you adventurous enough to try one? Average Price per piece - 175 yen It's sad that this place has 2 stars on Google Maps. I think a lot of people don't actually order the kushi katsu and instead opt for more "regular" Japanese food that has a higher price tag than usual because it's not the restaurant's specialty. Hence, the ridiculously low rating on Google Maps.

Yakiniku Like Fukushima Ekimae
@travelwithgxbby
Don't be intimidated by the raw meat -- this restaurant allows you to have the experience of grilling your own meat on an open flame! This is by far the best yakiniku that I've had in Osaka. They're very cheap but worth every penny. Expect to spend around 2000 yen here as you grill your own meat to your liking. Be sure to add their special flakes as a rice topping to give a nice savory flavour to the dish. Be sure to use the tablet to order and get your utencils from the draw where you are seated. This restaurant is designed for solo eaters but they can accommodate up to 4 people at a table (depending on the restaurant.) I highly recommend getting the "mixed karubi" in a medium or large size. Everything is perfectly cooked with the right amount of everything. A perfect eating experience!

I'm from the Caribbean, so wherever I can taste a piece of home, I go out of my way to get it! This curry restaurant has DELICIOUS curry and features mutton curry which is similar to curry goat back home. I also recommend pairing the mutton curry with cheese naan for a unique experience and blend of flavors! Average spend: 1800 yen

Avocado House at Namba
@travelwithgxbby
Visit this spot for aesthetic Instagram photos and delicious Mexican food The drinks are great and the "rich avocado" dish is very nice. It's very creamy and paired with soy sauce for a unique flavor. Be sure to clarify with the staff what you are ordering -- they have 3 menu items: corn chips, chips with salsa, and nachos, all of which are the SAME chips and different dips. Average spend: 3000 yen per person

Obicà Mozzarella Bar Umeda
@travelwithgxbby
This is a fine dining restaurant that offers 5-course meals for 6000 yen per person. It has a great ambiance and the ingredients are very fresh, high quality, and worth the price tag! If you are ordering a-la-carte, I'd highly recommend the lasagna as the meat is well seasoned and it's very cheesy.

Nene Chicken
@travelwithgxbby
They have really great Korean-style chicken. I really enjoyed the spicy chicken and the snowy cheese chicken! Their portions are huge and will cost around 2500 per portion, but it's well worth it. Make sure to eat ALL your chicken on the same day because it doesn't hit the same way when u microwave it the next day :( NB: This is a chain restaurant and can be found in many cities across Osaka and Japan

MOULiN
@travelwithgxbby
This restaurant is sat right near the riverside and has an amazing ambiance. You definitely want to put on something put together, even if it's casual. And be prepared to spend a bit and have exact change. Our party of 5 couldn't split the bill and paid a total of 17,500 yen. Food rating: 3/5 | Drink rating: 4/5 I highly recommend getting: 1. Octopus and Olive Bullschetta - it's very seasoned and doesn't taste like octopus. Italian flavors blend nicely to create a unique taste. 4 pieces for 980 yen. 2. Beef Lasagna - it's thin but has rich flavors. There was a generous portion of cheese and I enjoyed every bite. 1 portion for 1450 yen. 3. The Dotonbori Drink - beware, this drink catfishes as a yellowy, sunset orange drink! But when you get it, you realize it's a murky green drink that delights your senses with an apple and wine combination. It looks JUST like the river but tastes like heaven!! One glass for 800 yen.

Cafe LA
@travelwithgxbby
This is a cozy spot and it's branded as a cafe. To me, however, it's a really good spot to get drinks and homemade cookies. They have really interesting books and games. Check their schedule for karaoke and language trade sessions.

Table36
@travelwithgxbby
Enjoy scenic views at this skytop restaurant. They have course menus starting at 5000 yen. They also have special events and seasonal menus so be sure to look out for those as well! Please note, this location is a bit difficult to find. Please follow the directions below: 1. Find the front of the Swissotel building -- it's red with elevators in the front. 2. Take the elevator to the 6th floor. When you exit take a right... and another right, then head to the other set of elevators against gold doors. 3. Take this elevator to the 36th floor, and when you exit turn left to get to the restaurant / bar.

@travelwithgxbby
This restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, but the jerk chicken and rice has been recommended to me. The chicken is flavorful with the right amount of seasoning and just enough crispiness on the skin. Definitely worth checking out as this is not a highly advertised spot.
