This restaurant is hidden behind an unassuming door in the neighborhood of Psyrri in Athens. You may have to wait for a table but it is well worth it with traditional and humble dishes.
Diporto literally means ‘2 door’ as the entrance to the basement restaurant is a split 2 door entry. The menu is changed daily and the venue itself feels like you are dining in someone’s home. Don’t expect too much from the decor but the home cooked meals are delicious and seasonal.
Klimataria is family owned restaurant with slow cooked dishes, traditional mains and exceptional appetizers. Located in what feels like a home garden, the atmosphere and hospitality is delightful.
For those that like something a little more quirky…
If you find yourself in Athens on a Sunday you can visit the famous Monastiraki Flea Markets. With Antiques, trinkets, clothing and more.
For something a little more upmarket, the neighborhood of Kolonaki is a must! From labels to handmade pottery, here you will also find higher end eateries and nightlife.
The Parthenon temple was dedicated to the Goddess Athina in the 5th Century B.C. To visit the Parthenon Temple and Acropolis site you now need to purchase timed tickets online. Best to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon as it gets very busy and hot! Please be mindful of the shoes that you wear as the marble onsite can be very slippery!
Syntagma Square is where you can find the Greek Parliament and see the changing of the guard everyday on the hour. The official name of the guards is the Evzones and on Sundays at 11am there is a large procession in the square.
