Where to stay…

The best locations to stay are around Syntagma Square, Monastiraki or Plaka… this is both logistically and culturally advantageous although some critics will argue that these locations are too touristy. Believe me, you will be happy that you’re so close to the action and there are some really nice places to stay as per the selections below…

Where to Eat…

Athens is full of amazing eateries, however there are some standout traditional Greek Tavernas that will satisfy your craving for humble Greek cuisine…

Diporto
@TheTravelSourcerer
Diporto literally means ‘2 door’ as the entrance to the basement restaurant is a split 2 door entry. The menu is changed daily and the venue itself feels like you are dining in someone’s home. Don’t expect too much from the decor but the home cooked meals are delicious and seasonal.

Best to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon as it gets very busy and hot! Please be mindful of the shoes that you wear as the marble onsite can be very slippery!
