💸 Cash

Singapore is a modern city that's fully embraced digital payments.

Wireless payment options like Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay & Paywave are widely accepted in shops and restaurants throughout the city. This means you can easily pay without worrying about carrying cash or finding small change. Plus, it's super convenient!

But, here's the deal - while hawker food stalls are slowly getting with the times, some restaurants and most food stalls still only accept cold, hard cash. So, it's a smart move to have some cash on hand for these situations.

But, hold up - there's some good news too! You can also score some sweet deals & discounts by using apps like Fave & Shopback. Cha-ching!

Overall, while you can survive on just wireless payments in Singapore, having some cash as a backup is always a good idea. So, pack some cash in your wallet, just in case you stumble upon a hidden gem that only takes cash.

👀 Know the rules

🛃 Know the customs rules & duty-free concessions

If you're looking to save some cash on booze & smokes, then listen up! Singapore ain't playing around when it comes to their duty-free policies, so make sure you do your homework before you hit up the airport. Here's the deal: for alcohol, you can bring in a total of one litre each of spirits, wine, and beer, OR two litres of wine and one litre of beer (and the other way around works too). As for tobacco, unfortunately, there's no duty-free allowance except for one already-opened pack. And just so you know, e-tobacco products are a no-go. Don't get caught out and slapped with some serious fines - do the right thing and follow the rules!

🪙 Additional tipping not necessary

When you're cruising around Singapore, don't sweat it if you don't know whether to tip or not. It ain't really a thing here, but if you get some A+ service, feel free to show your appreciation with a little something extra. At the smaller shops & hawker centres, you'll find an all-inclusive "net" price so you don't gotta worry about calculating anything. And for most services in shops, there's an 8% goods & services tax (GST). But when you hit up the cafes, restaurants or bars, keep an eye out for a "plus-plus" or "++" on your menu, 'cause you're gonna get hit with an additional 10% service charge on top of your bill. Now you're all set to enjoy your time in Singapore like a local!
